Sorry Gabe, You're Just Another Evans

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Julia Terruso reports, a Beltway-based conservative “dark money” group calling itself the Center for Individual Freedom spent several thousand dollars of their unaccountable cash running ads in Colorado thanking someone by the name of “Rep. Evans” for his vote in favor of the “We’re All Going To Die Act” Republican budget bill.

Unfortunately for the Center for Individual Freedom’s donors, the member of Congress depicted in their ad is neither Rep. Gabe Evans of Colorado, nor…we’ll let the Inquirer explain:

A conservative dark money group, the Center for Individual Freedom, is running ads on Meta and Instagram thanking lawmakers for voting for “Trump’s tax cuts,” one of many provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill, which also included cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. President Donald Trump signed the sweeping legislation into law last month.

But the group appears to have been a little sloppy in its research.

One ad thanks U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans, a Philadelphia Democrat who voted against the bill [Pols emphasis]— and who railed against in the days leading up to its passage. The ad is running digitally in Colorado, the home state of U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans, a Republican who supported the bill…

Democratic Rep. Dwight Evans of Pennsylvania was more than happy to correct the record, but the confusion was all in Colorado where the ad depicting the wrong Rep. Evans has apparently been running for close to a month. We were not in the target audience to have seen this doubly mistaken message, or we would surely have saved them some money by bringing it to readers’ attention before now.

If you’re a donor to the Center for Individual Freedom, amateur-hour mistakes like this can’t look good. For America’s Most Vulnerable Incumbent™ Rep. Gabe Evans, this gaffe is another reminder that while fellow Republicans are afraid for his future, they don’t actually know who he is.

Or, you know, care much. All they know is a guy named Evans is in trouble.
