Lauren Boebert Goes Rogue On Funding Trump's War On Iran

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

As FOX 31’s Brooke Williams reports, Colorado’s careening cannonball of contentiousness Rep. Lauren Boebert is once again at odds with her would-be political pole star Donald Trump, coming out against the Pentagon’s request for an eye-popping $200 billion-with-a-B in additional funds to pay for the President of Peace’s unpopular war on Iran:

In Washington D.C. on Thursday morning, Republican representative for Colorado’s 4th district Lauren Boebert said she will not vote for a war supplemental, and that she already told leadership that she is a no on any war supplementals. support war supplements while people in her district can’t afford to live.

“I am so tired of spending money elsewhere. I am tired of the industrial war complex getting all of our hard earned tax dollars. I have folks in Colorado who can’t afford to live. We need America first policies right now and that,” Boebert said. “I’m not doing that. We need the Save America Act, FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) with warrants. There’s a lot of hard lines that I have right now and we’ve got to get our act together if we want to keep this majority and the path that we’re going doesn’t look very promising.”

We can momentarily set aside Boebert’s call to abolish the election system she owes her own seat to, and that Republican clerks in both her old and new districts can assure Boebert is safe and accurate, to focus on the bigger headline that Boebert is a critical “no” vote in the House on funding the war on Iran. Though perhaps not as emotive as Boebert’s refusal to give in to administration pressure over the release of the Epstein files, this is a much more substantial policy dispute and therefore much more likely to provoke Trump’s wrath.

Once again, we’re in the odd position of favorably comparing Boebert’s resolve to fellow GOP Rep. Gabe Evans’ fecklessness:

Gabe Evans, Republican representative for Colorado’s 8th district, also commented on the matter Washington D.C. on Thursday morning. The 12-year Army veteran told reporters that he agreed with Boebert on putting America first, but said that requires more funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

“I can tell you the imminent threat that the Iranian regime poses to the homeland of the United States and to all of our interests overseas. [Pols emphasis] And so, yes, of course, we’ve got to make sure that we put America first, but that also means taking care of the homeland and making sure that Department of Homeland Security is funded and that we have the appropriate resources for our military as they go out and put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe,” he said…

First of all, if Gabe Evans really can tell us what exactly the “imminent threat” that Iran posed justifying our war of aggression, that means he knows more about what’s going on than the Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who refused to say what that threat was when repeatedly asked to do so in congressional testimony this week. As of this writing, no one in the Trump administration has articulated the specific imminent threat Iran posed. But apparently America’s Most Vulnerable Incumbent™ knows the answer.

It’s the latest case of role reversal among Colorado’s Republican congresspeople, in which Gabe Evans operates like he’s in a safe Republican seat while his colleagues expose Evans’ cowardice with their own actions. There’s nothing that would help Evans politically more than putting distance between himself and an administration whose public support is cratering.

But even with Lauren Boebert leading the way, Gabe Evans can’t quit Donald Trump.
