Former Republican Congressman, Colorado gubernatorial candidate, and Presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo is still kicking around Republican politics in our state.
Congressperson Lauren Boebert (R-Somewhere in Colorado) announced today that she has received Tancredo’s endorsement in her bid for a seat in the fourth congressional district. She even posted a picture of herself and Tancredo, though that photo of Tanc likely predates Boebert’s very existence.
Tancredo hasn’t been politically-relevant in Colorado since Boebert was in her early 20’s, but apparently she believes that his certain brand of xenophobic nonsense is helpful to her election cause.
As we noted in 2022, Tancredo’s endorsement has been the kiss of death for Republican candidates; by our count at the time, only three of 22 Tancredo endorsed candidates went on to win a General Election going back to 2006 (though Boebert was one of those exceptions in 2020). With Boebert looking like the favorite in CO-04 in the June Primary, perhaps she can again increase Tancredo’s endorsement winning percentage.
What Tancredo’s endorsement does for Boebert, however, is a question we cannot answer.
