Rep.Betsy Markey has had a pretty good couple of days for her 2010 re-election bid. First, a Republican consulting firm released a poll that shows that her potential GOP challengers are largely unknown at this point to their own party’s voters. Then Wednesday, the Fort Collins Democrat formally reported raising $342,000 in the first quarter of the year, or almost exactly $300,000 more than one announced and one potential Republican challenger combined.
It’s obviously very early in the campaign and Republicans are not going to back away from a seat they had held since 1975 before Markey won it last year. But Markey’s fundraising performance was exceptional, even by national standards.

The upshot is that Markey ranked seventh or eighth among the 40 members of the DCCC’s “Frontline” program and was the top money raiser among Western candidates on the list.
