  1. GOP PUMA for 5/7/16……….

    Here's where we stand today:

For Drumpf:  Bob Dole, Dick Cheney and Sheldon Adelson (most likely because his fair-haired boy, Newt Gingrich, is on Drumpf's short list for VP), and our very own Moderatus.

Against Drumpf:  Mark Salter (John McCain consigliere who has endorsed HRC), Ben Howe (from Red State who has endorsed HRC), and JEB!

Still on the fence:  Paul Ryan and the Koch.

  2. With Newt on the ticket they'd have what, seven wives between them?  Will Kim Davis run the Civil Rights Division at DOJ?

Did I miss it, or has Drumpf forgotten to congratulate the newly-elected Mooooslim mayor of London?

    1. I believe the phrase was "natural vacancy", V., but yeah. If the worst happens and the Hairdo get's in, will we have the first president to divorce while in the White House?

  3. Time to blow my own horn. Does anyone remember that chicken soup recipe I posted once when someone here was sick as a mule? I got a copy of a cookbook in the mail today in which that recipe was published.

        1. Sure, I would love to try your recipe. What is the name of the book? Did Karen have anything to do with its publication?

Maybe mj would be kind enough to post it for us.

          1. It's from a company, Gooseberry Patch, that publishes all sorts of "country living"-type books. Come to think of it, they're probably popular in your neck of the woods, Duke. They gave it a silly name "Fun Fall Foods". They’re sold at craft stores and, oddly, at hardware stores. They have a website, too.                                                                          http://www.gooseberrypatch.com/

      1. Here is the cook's recipe: (it looks great):

        Cold-killer Chicken Soup.
½ gal. chicken broth or stock if you have skin and bones
1 whole boneless, skinless chicken breast, diced
        2 medium carrots, diced
        2 medium celery stalks, diced
½ large white or yellow onion, diced
        3 garlic cloves, minced
1 thumb-sized piece of raw ginger root, mashed in a garlic press to extract juice and then finely minced
        1 Tbsp. poultry seasoning
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 Tsp. dried red (pizza) pepper
        Small package multi-colored pasta shapes
Bring broth and all seasonings to simmer in large, covered pot, while chopping up chicken and veggies.
Add chicken to broth. Cover and let simmer 30 min.
Add veggies to pot. Cover and simmer 30 minutes more.
Add pasta and simmer until pasta is al dente.

        Thanks, Cook!

        1. thanks for posting this, mama. It looks delicious and I have almost all the ingredients on hand..I think I will make some today and let you all know how it turns out.

          1. Can't wait to see what you think, Duke, Don't forget that raw ginger root. And I don't mean that ground stuff in a can that your wife has had sitting on a shelf for 10 years. Whole roots can be found in the produce department in grocery stores.

            1. I would never think of it. I will be going shopping this afternoon and will pick up some fresh ginger root. and just for the record…I no longer have a wife…just another ex…we signed the papers Thursday. But its cool….cool

                1. A discussion of Ginger on a Thurston diary …

Like, who but Lovey didn't realize …

… what happened on Giiligan's Island was never going to stay on Gilligan's Island forever.

                1. 23 yrs…it seems to be a trend, lately.

So, skinny. I just served myself up a bowl of your chicken soup. Man, that is delicious. I can easily see why you call it “cold-killer”.
The crushed red pepper ( and I wasn’t shy with the black pepper, either) and the ginger, I’m thinking, give it a nice spicy finish…my nose is running already. Well done, and thanks.

                  1. You're welcome, Duke. Glad you like it. You might want to print off a copy and tuck it in a cookbook for the next time you feel a case of crud coming on.

        2. Thank you.  I will definitely make this.  I think it was Rachael Ray who said to peel the fresh ginger root and then freeze it.  When you need it, you just grate while it it is frozen.  It works pretty well.

          1. That's how I keep mine, Debbielynne. I buy whole roots, peel and slice them into coins and lay them on a sheet pan in my big freezer. Once frozen, they can go in a container or bag and keep well in the freezer. When we have an upset stomach we take out a piece and chew on it. Works every time.

  4. The Genius of America's Elite Political Pundits:

Video of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is making the rounds on Twitter this weekend for obvious reasons. Ellison warns the panel at ABC This Week that Donald Trump may very well be the Republican nominee. Host George Stephanopolous and Maggie Haberman of the New York Times burst out laughing. "I know you don't believe that," says George.

They and a lot of others got it wrong.

    Keith Ellison was right.

But it's not that those Geniuses are just wrong. It's that there are never consequences for being so wrong so much of the time about so many topics (ref. Bill Kristol – the real Butcher of Baghdad) while still receiving their Million dollar salaries.

They are another piece of the rigged system that voters are disgusted with.

Who got it right? Those crazy libruls everyone hates.

Digby, June 2015: …Donald Trump has the potential to be a serious 2016 player. And that says everything you need to know about the Republican presidential field and the state of our politics today.

Michael Moore, December 2015: Donald Trump is absolutely going to be the Republican candidate for president of the United States. It’s going from being a joke to being a serious reality.

Robert Creamer at Huffpo, August 2015: Trump is not going away. He is, in fact, a real contender for the nomination.

  5. GOP PUMA for 5/8/16…….

Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and Trump Energy Secretary wannabe, told Jake Tapper on CNN this morning that Paul Ryan is going to be "Cantored" and that barring a miracle, the speaker's political career is over for defying the will of the party.

    1. Palin, and therefore Trump, are lucky that Ryan is a rational, if wrong, human. Boehner would respond differently, in an FU sort of way. So would i

    1. You forgot to mention she's a faith minion of the NRA who voted to shie;d irresponsible gun makers from lawsuits by victims.   Oh, wait…that was Bernie.  No wonder you overlooked it.
