State Of Trump's Disunion Address Open Thread

  • by: Colorado Pols

In a statement earlier today, Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver says she’ll be skipping tonight’s address by President Donald Trump:

“Trump’s childish and shameful actions in the Oval Office towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as his barrage of illegal attacks against public servants and vulnerable groups, have disgraced and embarrassed our country. His actions are beneath the office of the President and do not merit my attendance at this Joint Address.

“As Trump undermines our democracy and assaults the values we hold dear, he continues to ignore his promise to lower costs and make life better for the American people.

“Trump and his billionaire pal Elon have made life worse for countless Denverites and Americans, many of whom call my office every day expressing their frustration and fear that the Trump administration is doing nothing to help them.

“His extreme actions, including his reckless disregard for the rule of law, are an insult to my constituents and the American people. They deserve so much more than his hateful rhetoric, blatant lies, and lack of meaningful progress on improving their quality of life.

“While I won’t be attending the Joint Address in person, I will be watching closely. And I will continue to call out Trump’s lies and stand up for the truth. Our democracy deserves no less.”

Watch this space for developments and comment from other Colorado officials as the hour of presidential bloviation, otherwise known as 7:00PM Mountain, draws near.

Our deepest sympathy to the fact-checkers.

  1. The Paris Accord that could have reduced the enviromental crisis we are in now.

Thankfully trumps tariffs added 20k to 80k trucks so might balance out

  2. Geez – maybe someone should've set off some flares or smoke grenades during this fascist bloviation.

If the Dems were serious about getting Cheeto Mussolini off his game, they would've asked Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel to write up a bunch of one-liners that the audience could zip out quickly without much interference. Instead we got a mix of stupid signs, weird outfits and ONE angry outburst from the gallery.

    1. I like your idea. The MAGAts have used disruption as a tactic for years. The Dems should display just a bit of old fashioned courage and show the fuckers how it is done. I was in college in Florida from 1969 until 1973. I know a little about protesting.  They should have continuously interrupted him until "the Talking Johnson"  was forced to do something dramatic.

Suppression is coming…We now have our own Putin. Americans need their own Alexei Navalny. We must remember him..always.

      1. Think what would have happened to the Cheeto if any of these insults were flug at him last night –

        Stephen Colbert's

“Oh, I don’t know. Try saying, ‘I resign.'”

-on trump complaining that there’s nothing he could do to make Democrats happy

“‘That dream, an affordable Denver omelette. We will get there one day.'”

-on trump promising the return of the American Dream

“‘And the days of rule by unelected billionaires have just begun.'”

-on trump announcing the end of “rule by unelected bureaucrats“

        Jimmy Kimmel:

“His speech started late. I guess they were waiting for that last coat of shellac to dry on his face.”

“Even Melania showed up, so Democrats weren’t the only people who hate him there.”

        “You could quit.”

on trump whining that there’s nothing he could do to make Democrats cheer (he and Colbert with some parallel thinking)

  3. Diana DeGette refuses to attend the Joint Speech. How can our Republic survive? OMG.

Maybe she is at home catching up on reading her magazines.

    1. Good for her.  Who should waste their time listening to the convicted felon bloviate?  Avs played the Penguins.  Much better use of my time.  Though I'm sure you enjoyed him trying to polish the turd that is the trump slump.  BTW, lickspittle for putin's poodle is no way to go through life, pp

      1. When Pitiful Pair's trucking business falls into the Trump slump, I'm sure he'll blame it on Jimmy Carter, or Obama — anyone but his golden ox idol, King Donald the Idiot.

      2. I couldn't make myself watch it either. The sound of that whiny spoiled brat voice sets my teeth on edge. watched the post-game coverage as talking heads tore his lies (so many lies) apart.

        1. I haven't watched a single second of a State of the Union address – or any POTUS address to a joint session of Congress – since that SotU in which Shrub blabbered on and on about how steroids were ruining professional baseball. I thought while listening, "Do I really hate myself this much?" Thankfully, the answer was, "No."

Certainly wasn't going to break the streak for the likes of PAB.
