    1. It would be funnier, except that’s likely his password for everything . . .

. . . [tries ‘1234MAGA’] “Melania! What’s my nuclear launch attack KFC Club password again? [Tries ‘MAGA1234′] Melania! Vanki! Rudy! Vladi, buddy, if you’re listening right now?! — hmmm, oh yeah, now I remember bigly . . . [tries ’12MAGA34’] Shit! – I wonder if Stormy still remembers? . . .”

  1. Hope everyone is willing to hear the chorus of Christmas blues …

Unemployment insurance claims continue to climb

Another 1.3 million people applied for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits last week, including 885,000 people who applied for regular state UI and 455,000 who applied for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). The 1.3 million who applied for UI last week was an increase of 63,000 from the prior week. This was the second week in a row of increases and initial claims are now back to their highest point since September. Layoffs are rising as the COVID-19 virus surges and demand weakens. And, last week was the 39th straight week total initial claims were greater than the worst week of the Great Recession. (If that comparison is restricted to regular state claims—because we didn’t have PUA in the Great Recession—initial claims last week were greater than the second-worst week of the Great Recession.)

    1. Thanks for the concern.   We so far are dodging the bullet.  My daughter's father in law was briefly hospitalized with covid, is back home.  My son-in-law cop has been quarantining off-duty after several cases hit his precinct.  So far, so good.  He still goes to work but has an n97.5 mask.

My granddaughter and boyfriend moved out to quarantine 10 days after his parents got covid.  So far, they are fine.

      And, yes, Trump still stinks.

      Great God Almighty, Trump stinks!

      1. Glad you're well, V.  I managed to get the Rona – a trip to the ER yesterday with some breathing issues. It's no worse today so hoping for 'steady, then better'.  I'd like to blame it on my trip to Venango!

        1. Hope you continue to monitor symptoms and the rest of your condition carefully and then take care of yourself —

I've been reading too many of the "unexpected effects" articles, so am back to scared enough to be near obsessive about masks, distance, hand sanitizer and minimal time inside at other locations. Maybe if Denver's number continue downward, I'll get back to being just cautious rather than frenetic.

          1. Yes, I have to admit that once you have the virus the stories of the demise of many my/our age and the unexpected effects of the survivors are more and more troubling.  I've been really judicious with masks, social distancing, etc from the start, but given I spend a lot of time around a population that refuse to wear masks I suppose this was just a matter of time.

            Please stay safe everyone.

            1. My pregnant daughter, son in law, and toddler granddaughter were exposed to the virus by a feckless California visitor, who was “so sorry” . They just came off of two weeks quarantine with negative C19 tests ( me, too).

Staying safe is critical – I’m lucky enough to be able to live on my pension and SS. Son in law is continuing to work in solar installs to support his family. We’re glad we got him released early from the Jeffco jail, which is in full blown outbreak mode.

        2. Get well soon, Michael. So far we're dodging it here. Karen's been home since March, and we hardly leave the house. If I were closer, I'd bring you The Magic Soup.

            1. Ask one of your kids to make you some. The recipe’s on a thread somewhere here. If you can’t find it, send me a FB note and I’ll send it back.

    1. Maybe Mike can serve in the Biden administration, to show there are no hard feelings. He could go to Bangui as ambassador to the Central African Republic.

  2. Some nice news just seen on Yahoo regarding more Biden Cabinet appointments:

Michael Regan, North Carolina’s environmental regulator, for EPA Administrator. Is African American and has a good record of consensus building to get things done.

Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM) for Interior Secretary. She is from the Laguna Pueblo and is (obviously) Native American. I’m looking forward to a quick restoration of Bears Ears & Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monuments in Utah.

Not officially announced yet, but thanks to the usual “anonymous source…..”

      1. Haaland is the one I am most excited about. She needs to hire some Comanche regulators..nobody fucks with the Comanche.

I hope she fills the agency with native peoples. Particularly in the parks and forests where they interface with the public. I believe it is time for the Tribes to stand up and make some noise..

          1. Indeed, it would have. The Apache and the Arapaho have many stories about the crazy-assed Comanche. They lived to fight and pretty much ruled the plains. They were amazing horsemen.

I think they would make short work of Clivens' overfed, undereducated, progeny and their phony warrior friends. Might be entertaining to watch…
