The home stretch: what you can do to fight back this week (November 2)

After four tumultuous years of resistance, the day we’ve been looking forward to is finally upon us! Take a deep breath, pat yourself on the back, and continue to call and text voters until polls close at 7pm on Election Night. Tomorrow, assuming the polls are right and no surprises await, a sweeping nationwide landslide victory for progressives will begin the process of walking our nation back from the disastrous mistake a few tens of thousands of voters in three states far from Colorado made in 2016.

Colorado voted against Donald Trump in 2016, and never supported what has happened to our nation under his disastrous administration. Starting tomorrow, it is Colorado that will lead this nation back from Trump’s brink of national destruction. We are leading with some of the highest rates of voter participation in American history, which could make Colorado the #1 state for turnout of eligible voters in the nation. Democrats and progressive unaffiliated voters are returning our ballots in numbers this year that have blown away all predictions. We can’t control what happens in every state, but in Colorado, it’s not going to be close.

Unfortunately, America’s not out of the woods. Although the result in Colorado appears certain and polls show progressives leading across the nation including states that are not traditionally competitive, there remains a significant risk that Trump will not accept the results of the election if he loses. This possibility is why it’s so important for everyone to visit the Protect The Results coalition site and sign up for alerts to mobilize this week if Trump attempts to undermine the results. We’re ready to mobilize on November 4 in every major Front Range city from Fort Collins to Pueblo for massive peaceful demonstrations to protect our democracy.

Action item #1 this week: RSVP to organize on November 4th if needed to Protect The Results.

Fort Collins | Longmont | Boulder | Arvada | Denver | Aurora | Colorado Springs | Pueblo

More event locations may be announced as necessary, check the PTR website for updates.

The best-case scenario? None of this will be necessary, because the election will be a landslide so great not even Donald Trump can question it. Whatever happens next, we know in Colorado that the threat of Trump has rallied progressives to fight back for like few events in our history, and taught a whole generation of Americans to never take our rights and values for granted again. Trump is a turning point in American history—but just maybe not the kind he expected.

Thanks again, and here are a few more ways to fight back this week of November 2:

One Colorado: #ODIC: Fulton Virtual Town Hall

On November 4, the Supreme Court will hear a case that could allow private agencies that receive taxpayer-funding in order to provide government services — such as foster care, adoption, food banks, homeless shelters, and more — to deny services to people such as LGBTQ+, single women, Jewish, Muslim, or Mormon. They claim they have a constitutional right to do so because they have a religious objection to serving these families. For foster care services alone this case could have a profound impact on the lives of the more than the 440,000 children in foster care across the country. Freedom of religion has always a fundamental and protected right — but that freedom doesn’t give any of us the right to impose our beliefs on others, or to discriminate.

When: Wednesday, November 4 at 6:00pm

Colorado Consumer Health Initiative: Community Information Session

We are working to support the Black/African American community in advancing equity in health policy and develop programs that respond to community needs. Let’s get together and raise our voices for change! In this online workshop, you will learn the skills to give effective written and oral public comments that will influence our government and other decision makers to take action on the issues that matter to you. Join Colorado Sierra Club’s Fossil Free Front Range Organizer, Ren Smith, for the first in a series of workshops on organizing tactics you can use to make your community a better place. At the end of the webinar there will be an opportunity to use your new skills to help advocate for clean and clear Colorado skies!

When: Thursday, November 5 at 7:00pm

No matter what happens, we’ll see you next week with more ways to make a difference. And we’re grateful for everything you do.
