What you can do to fight back this week (September 21)

Last weekend, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, we lost one of America’s foremost protectors of equality and civil rights. Our remembrance of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is both a celebration of the immense progress made during her term on the U.S. Supreme Court, and a moment of peril for America just a few weeks from the most consequential presidential election of our lives so far.

In 2016, Cory Gardner was unequivocal, saying “I think we’re too close to the election” to fill a U.S. Supreme Court vacancy and that “the president who is elected in November should be the one who makes this decision.”

Everything Gardner said in 2016 applies today, even more given the election is just a few short weeks away—much closer than it was when Gardner drew his line in the sand over the nomination of Merrick Garland, who never even got a hearing.

If Gardner reverses himself today and helps Trump pack the Supreme Court with another right-wing Justice in the mold of Brett Kavanaugh, it will alter the course of American democracy for a generation–and could even give Trump the ability to steal the election.

We must do everything in our power to stop this from happening. Click here to make a quick call to Sen. Cory Gardner’s Washington, D.C. office right now, and tell him there is no excuse he can make to undo the precedent he set in 2016. The Senate must wait until the next President is sworn in to vote on a new Supreme Court Justice.

Thanks for making your voice heard on this critical issue. No matter what Cory Gardner does now, accountability is coming. here are a few more great ways to take action for the week of September 21:

Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition: Unwelcome Party for Palantir

The company, Palantir Technologies, is ICE’s technology backbone, providing the digital infrastructure to surveil, detain and deport immigrants. Palantir’s tools have been used to conduct mass workplace raids, including the biggest raid in US history in which 680 people were detained in Mississippi. Palantir moved its headquarters to Colorado this month. Let’s show them that they are not welcome in our city and state! We will not let Palantir profile our people and separate our families. Meet outside 1555 Blake Street at 4pm for a socially distant “Unwelcome Party”! MASKS REQUIRED!

Where: 1555 Blake St, Denver
When: Tuesday, September 22 at 4:00pm

Immigration is an LGBTQ Issue: Love Across Borders

Mariposa at the Althea Center, in partnership with NY-based Immigration Equality and American Friends Service Committee Colorado, will present “Immigration is an LGBTQ Issue: Love Across Borders,” 4-week series of programs highlighting some of the traumatizing circumstances and critical needs of our LGBTQ sisters and brothers seeking asylum in the United States. With simultaneous Spanish/English interpretation provided for Zoom participants, we will hear powerful and personal migration stories from current and recent LGBTQ asylum seekers. PFLAG Las Cruces, NM, will share their “real life” model of hosting asylum seekers, for which they won an award last year from the national PFLAG organization. We will hear from national and local leaders doing the day-to-day work of assisting and supporting these asylum seekers.
