3 Jobs For People With a Commercial Driver License

  •
  • by: Phoner

Getting a commercial driver license can open the door to many different types of jobs. Depending on how the person with the CDL envisions their career path, they have many options. They can drive a vehicle for a company or for themselves, become a supervisor or train others.

1. Driver

One of the ways that people can put their CDL to immediate use is by driving a vehicle for a company or by opening their own business. City and school bus drivers need a CDL at a minimum before they can have their own route. Local delivery drivers and long-haul truck drivers are usually in-demand in most areas of the country. People who drive buses or trucks for a living should look into CDL driver protection plans as a precaution.

2. Supervisor

Companies that have multiple employees usually need one or more people who can oversee them. Supervisors can be current employees who are promoted from within, so anyone who wishes to move into a management role at some point in their career may want to start out as a driver or other position in the company in the hopes of moving up. Transportation supervisors may be in charge of scheduling deliveries and runs and providing leadership to employees.

3. Trainer

Anyone who wants to get a CDL will need to undergo at least a basic training process. Instructors can be an invaluable part of someone’s journey as they attempt to get their CDL to start or change their career. Instructors can assist others and keep them from making mistakes on the road.

Whether someone desires to spend their life on the road or wants to move into a management position to spend more time at a desk, getting a CDL can be a way to make it happen. Look into the local laws and regulations to ensure all requirements are met before applying for the CDL and speak to people in the industry for career advice.
