What you can do to fight back this week (August 10)

It’s very simple. One side wants to help.

The other side thinks you’re getting “too much help.”

Americans have been waiting for months now for Senate Republicans to take action on another badly needed economic stimulus bill to keep the country going as the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Hundreds of thousands of Coloradans are hurting right now after extended unemployment benefits expired at the end of last month. Donald Trump’s executive order this past weekend restored only a fraction of those benefits, and even that might have been illegal because it’s Congress’ job to appropriate money.

Coloradans are suffering. The time for political games is over. The U.S. Senate must end this charade and pass the HEROES Act, which passed the U.S. House back in May, before Coloradans lose everything. Keep the pressure on Cory Gardner: contact his office right now at 855-945-2679 and demand he stop stalling for Mitch McConnell and pass the HEROES Act.

Make no mistake, this standoff is happening because Trump and Republicans like Cory Gardner think Americans are getting “too much help.” Gardner tells the press he supports extending the unemployment benefit, but Gardner also told a local radio host that he believes it creates “unfair competition between the government and the private sector.” [1] The House passed comprehensive economic relief legislation months ago that could give Americans certainty. The reason another check is not in the mail to Americans who need it, the reason unemployment benefits are being slashed, and local governments are rapidly running out of money for vital services, is because Cory Gardner and Republicans in Washington want it to be this way.

Thanks for your help at this critical moment to get every Coloradan, working and unemployed, through these difficult times. Here are more great ways to make a difference for the week of August 10:
