The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted everyone, creating a public health crisis as well as an economic one. One of the side effects of this pandemic has been that more Americans appear to be identifying as moderates, giving rise to those who are looking for a moderate political party. It shows that people are gradually shifting from the extremes back to the center. Why might this be the case?
One of the major reasons why American politics has become so polarizing during the past few years has been that many people have been living in an echo chamber. What does this mean? It means that many people are reading news articles and listening to commentators who only communicate points with which they agree. This makes it very hard for anyone to think critically about what is happening in the world around them. As a result, American politics has only become more extreme and this is reflected in the intransigence of our political system in Washington. The good news is that this is starting to change.it.
The good news is that it appears that the echo chamber is starting to shift. This has a lot to do with the pandemic that has unfolded and everything that has happened around it. The incredible mismanagement of the pandemic combined with the social justice issues that have taken center stage has caused Americans to pause and think about what is happening. They realize that shifting to the center, away from the extremes, is one of the great ways to change the country for the better. When people express a willingness to work together, the entire world benefits. This is one of the reasons why so many Americans are looking for a moderate who can hold power in this country.
Right now, the most important thing is to find a way to unite the country instead of divide it. Too often, those who operate on the extremes of the political system spend their time trying to stoke division among the people. When the people are divided, it makes them easier to control. Now more than ever, people need to find a way to unite to change this country for the better. The way to do this is for everyone to come to the center and work together on the issues.
