The issues that matter

  •
  • by: H-man

Reading ColoradoPols one might conclude that the voters in the Senate race are concerned about abortion rights, the continued existance of the departments of education and energy or LBBT issues.  Perhaps many on ColoradoPols are.  The electorate, however, really doesn’t care.  Think this is the raving of your favorite right-wing pollster?  Well it is, but it is also supported by the polling.

The Rasmussen poll which was released yesterday contained the following question on the subject:

In terms of how you will vote in the next national election, are you primarily interested in National Security issues such as the War with Iraq and the War on Terror, Economic issues such as jobs and economic growth, Domestic Issues like Social Security and Health Care, Cultural issues such as same-sex marriage and abortion, or Fiscal issues such as taxes and government spending?

The answer to the question, in order of importance to those polled, is as follows:

1. Economic issues 50%

2. Fiscal issues 16%

3. Domestic issues 12%

4. National security issues 10%

5. Cultural issues 6%

6. Not sure 6%

That is right pollsters, the people that matter could give a rat’s ass about what you have been blathering about.  Cultural issues: 6%.

There was an interesting comment posted in the Denver Post by a life-long Democrat, who is not going to be voting for Michael Bennet, that sets forth in layman’s terms the problem that he, a senior, veteran Democrat, has with Michael Bennet.  Here are some relevant points:

In my opinion during his brief tenure in the office Bennet has not only forsaken his own principals, but he has joined the Washington, D.C. beltway “Club of Liars” led by the liberal-socialist Democratic leadership of Obama-Reid-Pelosi (“ORP”).

It appears the Republican plan as playing Michael Bennet is an Obama rubber stamp has at least one convert.  He goes on:

For example, Bennet can talk all he wants to about being a fiscal conservative and being seriously concerned about the deficit and the rapidly growing federal debt, but his actions and votes tell the truth where he stands…he is just a traditional, reckless and irresponsible “tax & spend” Democrat.

Polling shows Bennet is losing about 4 to 1 on fiscal issues.  It gets better:

Also, without being a hypocrite how can he talk about being a strong supporter of entrepreneurs and small businesses and, then, turn around and vote for the feds to take over health care and implement other huge socialist-type federal programs?

That would be what he thinks of Bennet’s performance on the most important issue to voters.  But it gets better pollsters.  You know how Buck thinks social security is a bad thing and wants to cut it, at least according to the Buck is extreme crowd, here is what your life-long senior, veteran thinks about Senator Bennet:

Finally, I cannot believe his continuous chattering on about his efforts to protect social security and medicare and, then, he turns around and votes to CUT $500 Billion from medicare during the next ten years. His statements are obviously disingenuous and they may even reflect what he thinks about us as voters…that we are dumb and uninformed

The storm is coming.  The voters remember.
