(I think you mean DemocratIC Governor but hey, close enough. – promoted by Middle of the Road)
Actually – maybe the title of this post should be: Why I didn’t vote for Scott McInnis.
In spite of the fact that I have friends on that campaign, no one has ever asked me why I’m not a “supporter”. Had anyone actually asked I would have happily articulated what hundreds of us state delegates were thinking.
Scott – it’s not about the fact that you don’t give to charity.
Nancy – it’s not because your guy isn’t getting his message out.
Sean – it’s not because your candidate can’t clearly state his real position on Life.
It’s because Scott McInnis has always been out for one guy: Scott McInnis.
1. He was never a supporter of ‘The Team’. He, like Norton, sprinkled his endorsement here and there – but was never in the trenches with us. He didn’t write checks and he didn’t pitch in to help when we were at our worst: the losing end in the dark months of autumn. Instead, he disappeared and even occasionally took interviews from the press explaining (yes, what we all knew) why our team was losing. But he threw eggs instead of life-lines.
2. Two years ago, when he said he would never go the “state convention route” because we were “out of touch” – well – we remembered that. Yes, we are out of touch. But his pandering to us without actually listening was even worse than Norton’s blatant disregard.
3. I don’t trust Scott. He’s been waiting in anticipation of the perfect race at the perfect time with the perfect path to victory. He made deals to avoid a primary. He backed out of other races when it was clear it wouldn’t be a cake walk. I’d rather have the guy who would lose honorably than win in appeasement. As Governor, he’d appease and acquiesce. And I’d rather have a democrat governor than a weaselly republican. There – I’ve said it.
I’d rather have a Democrat Governor – who’s with me 30% of the time but who I know I can’t trust – then a weak, in-it-for-himself Republican who I can trust only 30% of the time.
Why?
Because then I can spend the next four years grooming the guy who can actually bring our party out of this funk with respect and integrity. I want a hero again. And Scott aint it.
Will Dan win the Primary? No. Will Scott win the General? No again. But I’ll happily take a four-year reprieve to go build a bench that will.
