UPDATE: D’oh!

—–
From the “nothing is ever really deleted” files, Politiwoops caught another short-lived arrow of flaming untruth from Rep. Lauren Boebert this morning:

Although there’s nothing amiss in the caption, Twitter denizens grabbed the offending graphic for posterity:

The problem is that the quote “for true patriots to be silent is dangerous” was not uttered by John Adams, the second President of the United States, but rather John Adams’ second cousin, 4th Massachusetts Gov. Samuel Adams. And to be clear, as Mathew Helman points out, Gov. Samuel Adams has no historical relationship to the Boston Beer Company (founded in 1984) that produces the beer by which most people know the same Sam Adams.
All fun facts for those who know their history to trade at parties! We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest, hopefully without overmuch condescension, that mastery of historical trivia is not a top-line job requirement for Rep. Boebert’s staff.
Ordinarily a few roastings on Twitter would inspire better quality control from the social media graphics department, but that’s not how “America Firsters” roll. So it’s up to you, discerning reader, to always keep in mind the immortal words of President Abraham Lincoln:

That’s good advice no matter who said it first.
