"Mein Fuhrer...Ritter Is Out"

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

By popular demand (and validating press coverage):

Fox 31 giving us cover to even be talking about this:

“Normally, the first side to invoke Hitler loses in politics,” said political analyst Eric Sondermann. “But this may not be in the same category.”

Sondermann, the son of two Holocaust survivors, is reacting to a new viral video parodying the Colorado governor’s race by re-subtitling a scene from the movie, “Downfall,” which depicts Adolph Hitler in his bunker in the closing days of World War II.

“Wow. That’s about all you can say,” Sondermann said after watching the YouTube clip.

In the scene, Hitler is surrounded by generals mapping out strategy. But the new subtitles re-cast the discussion as a Republican strategy session on the 2010 Colorado governor’s race. When generals inform a surprised Hitler that Gov. Bill Ritter is no longer running and that popular Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper is now the Democratic candidate, the fuhrer goes nuts…

We’re pretty sure that we would have been roundly condemned for having posted this first thing this morning when it appeared in today’s open thread, but there you go–the “Springtime for Hitler” exception to Godwin’s Law. And since we’re allowed to say so, it’s pretty good, isn’t it?
