Last Day to Register to Vote

Today, October 3, is the deadline to register to vote and still cast your ballot in the November election. To register to vote, or to request a mail ballot, visit the Secretary of State website.

We’ve heard from a couple of people who said that they couldn’t get the SOS’s “address change” portion of its website to work correctly. If you’re having any problems with any type of voter registration issue, let us know in the comments or at webmaster@coloradopols.com.

“Class Warfare”–Don’t Everybody Use It At Once

Ways to know that everybody got the same briefing Friday afternoon–New York Times: Representative Paul D. Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee and a leading proponent of cutting spending on benefit programs like Medicare, said the proposal would weigh heavily on a stagnating economy. On “Fox News Sunday,” Mr. Ryan said it would add […]

Winners and Losers from Last Night’s GOP Debate

Our friends at “The Fix” provide the rundown on last night’s Republican Presidential debate. Mitt Romney did well. Michele Bachmann did not. And Rick Perry…well: WINNERS * First 45 minutes Rick Perry: With all eyes on him, the Texas governor started out strong – delivering a solid answer on jobs and showing a willingness to […]

Full Meaning of Gessler Slashing Larimer GOP Fines Yet To Come

As the Colorado Independent’s John Tomasic reports: Editorial boards at the Fort Collins Coloradoan and at the Denver Post have admonished Secretary of State Scott Gessler for setting bad precedent when he decided that the scandal-plagued Larimer County Republican Party was merely negligent and not willful in allowing Chairman Larry Carillo to bilk party funds […]

John Kefalas Replacin’ Bacon?

According to a Saturday press release: State Representative John Kefalas today formally announced that he is seeking the State Senate District 14 seat, which covers the city of Fort Collins, Colorado. The seat is now held by Sen. Bob Bacon, who is term-limited. House District 52 Rep. Kefalas is currently serving his third term representing […]

Stay Classy, Doug Lamborn

UPDATE #3: Ernest Luning of the Colorado Statesman reports that Rep. Doug Lamborn has apologized in a formal letter to the President this evening. —– UDPATE #2: Bet you’re dying to know what former FEMA Secretary Michael “Heckuva Job” Brown thinks of all this, aren’t you? Brownie Tweets his objection: Now there’s the sensitivity that […]

Served: Douglas Bruce

(Anyone else reminded of that terrible movie with “Kramer” called “Trial and Error“?   – promoted by Colorado Pols) Hot off the press … state attorney regulators close the deal, according to Law Week Colorado. While in court Friday for trial in his TABOR lawsuit against the state, anti-tax activist Douglas Bruce was served with […]

Palin Abruptly Quits Bus Tour, Returns to Alaska

UPDATE: AP with Palin’s response, okie dokie ma’am: Sarah Palin is disputing online reports that she has canceled her bus tour of historic American sites, saying in a Facebook posting that her schedule will be tight the next few weeks because she’s been called for jury duty. Palin said Wednesday that her “One Nation” bus […]

PSA: Last Day to Mail In Your Ballot

Folks, no matter who you’re supporting for Mayor (or Clerk, or City Council, etc…) we can’t stress how important it is that you get your ballot in. After all, after such a prolonged election, it only makes sense that you get your say on who gets to govern Denver next.

If you are planning on mailing in your ballot, you need to mail it today to make sure it gets delivered on time. So fill it out if you haven’t already and drop it in any mailbox that hasn’t been picked up yet and your vote will be counted by mail.

If you aren’t able to mail your ballot today, don’t panic, but don’t put it in the mail. Instead, take your completed ballot to any number of voter service centers around the city. You can see the complete list on the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s website. We’ve reproduced that list below as well. No need to worry, though. If you haven’t returned your ballot, we’re sure there’s hundreds of campaign staffers who’ll be pestering you from now until Tuesday.

The best lesson, then, is that if you don’t want to be continually harrassed, turn your ballot in. Got that? Vote early, and vote often, folks.

Flashback: We’re falling off the cliff we knew was coming two years ago . . .

Two years ago, Great Ed produced this internet ad starring Sports Guy/Comedian Sam Adams, giving Colorado a “two-year” warning. Back in 2009, we warned that a cliff was coming because Referendum C and Amendment 23 would be running out.  Little did we know that Amendment 23 would be reinterpreted into oblivion, or that K-12 and […]

Stay Classy, Jon Caldara

Insightful commentary from the head of Colorado’s leading conservative thinktank: Take that, Madam Secretary! You may consider the discourse elevated…now. —– UPDATE: It’s not even Caldara’s punchline, folks. Ann Coulter yesterday, via Media Matters: It was so funny, Caldara just had to lift it.

Did President Obama Get Re-Elected Last Weekend?

Yes, it’s early. Yes, the 2012 election is still a long ways from now. But we’re a political blog, and we’ve got to ask the obvious question: Does killing Osama bin Laden all but guarantee that President Obama will be re-elected in 2012? This paragraph alone, from Obama’s speech to the nation last night, is […]

11 GOP Senators Sponsor Last-Minute “Birther” Bill

UPDATE: FOX 31 reports: 11 Republican state senators have introduced a last-minute resolution that would require elected officials to provide proof of citizenship before they are sworn-in… “The concurrent resolution requires any person elected to public office in the state of Colorado to provide proof of citizenship along with the oath of office,” the resolution […]

Radio host says he’ll find out why Tipton has confidence in Boehner after trust damaged last week

(Who knew they danced at Tea Parties? – promoted by Colorado Pols) On the Cari and Rob Show April 14, Rep. Scott Tipton said his trust in House Speaker John Boehner was damaged after last week’s federal budget agreement was negotiated, but Tipton added that he wanted to hear Boehner’s explanation for the deal he […]

Stay Classy, Shawn Mitchell (Beat Up Some Liberals Edition)

With little additional comment needed, as posted to Sen. Shawn Mitchell’s Facebook page: To our knowledge, the only member of Congress presently talking, very obliquely, about a ‘ban’ on Koran burning is Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. It would have been good for Sen. Mitchell to mention this detail, since the rest of Mitchell’s analogy is […]

PSA: Last Day to Register to Vote

Hey folks,

We know you love to make your voice heard in the comments here at Denver Pols. That’s great, but if you want your voice to be heard in Denver’s approaching Mayoral election, today’s the last day you can register to vote.

Yeah, yeah. We know most of you are way ahead of us on this one. But on the off chance that you’re not registered yet, had over to the Secretary of State’s website and pray that Scott Gessler takes good care of the voter roll. More information is available from The Denver Clerk and Recorder’s Website.

Douglas County Votes for Vouchers

Sometime in the near future, the Douglas County School District is going to ask the State Board of Education for about $2 million in addition to what they would normally be allocated for next year.  “And what are they going to do with this extra money?” you ask.  They’re going to turn around and give […]

Stay Classy: Don’t You “Feminize” Scott Renfroe’s Boys!

As reported by a couple of outlets, Sen. Scott Renfroe had another of his charming “Leviticus moments” in debate yesterday–not the first, as our readers know, but here’s the video: And even on that note I would tell you that I do think a lot of our schools are failing in the physical activity department. […]

Abortion didn’t matter in the last election? Take a look at Congress now

(Bait meets switch – promoted by Colorado Pols) I never heard Sen. Michael Bennet mention the directional purpose of the anus, like that grandma did at the state Capitol Mon., but that didn’t stop Ken Buck from telling Bennet last year to shut up about social issues, like abortion. The GOP, and allied pundits, liked […]

Scott Walker…Class Warrior.

Yesterday, I commented on another thread, calling Wisconsin governor, Scott Walker, “mealy-mouthed”…among other epithets. Lest some readers think this an unfair evaluation of Gov. Walker, I submit the definition of the word: avoiding the use of direct and plain language I will give him this. He is an automaton when it comes to staying on […]

Diane Ravitch and the shadowy group of 500 attendees last night

This needs no additional commentary from us.  Please watch (there will be more from last night’s event very soon).

Stay Classy, Jim Kerr

More Republican-sponsored “Arizona copycat” anti-immigration bills died at the state capitol yesterday, and though that might not be quite all of them, it’s clear that this little campaign didn’t turn out quite the way the Republican Study Committee of Colorado intended. But as we’ve said repeatedly, the chief effect of these bills has only been […]

Senate Race Rape Victim Blasts “Forcible Rape” Redefinition Attempt

MONDAY UPDATE: A reader sent us the text of a letter from Rep. Cory Gardner in response to questions about his co-sponsorship of this legislation, where he self-identifies as an “original co-sponsor.” This was already known, but some readers wanted to see the proof. Full text below. —– Last fall, the United States Senate race […]
