Boebert All Done Rocking The Boat Over Epstein

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

Politico’s Hailey Fuchs reports on a story that seems a million years old, but as readers may recall through the haze of distractions dominated the headlines just a few short weeks ago:

One month after the congressionally mandated deadline to release all its files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Justice Department has made only a fraction of the files public — and it remains silent on its plans to fully comply with the law.

Also keeping quiet about the DOJ delays are congressional Republicans, almost all of whom voted in November to release the records after spending months heeding President Donald Trump’s opposition to the move…

Republicans in Washington, D.C. are laying low after their brief rebellion against President Donald Trump over releasing the Epstein files ended with the Justice Department grinding their gears to a halt with a new supposed unearthing of documents requiring all-new supposed reviews, becoming at length an excuse for the Justice Department to ignore the law passed by Congress–and for Republicans who voted for the full release of the files on deceased pedo billionaire Jeffrey Epstein to have occurred weeks ago to offer as an excuse of their own for not demanding the administration follow the law.

CNN reports that the public according to the latest polling is not buying the contrived back-and-forth:

A two-thirds majority of Americans say the federal government is intentionally holding back some information about the Epstein case that should be released, while just 16% say the government is making an effort to release all information possible. The remainder say they haven’t heard enough about the case to say.

Nearly 9 in 10 Democrats and 72% of independents say the government is intentionally withholding information, as do 42% of Republicans.

Only about one-third of Republicans think the government is making an effort to release information, with the rest not weighing in either way.

As the pressure grew on the Trump administration over their calamitous handling of the Epstein affair since retaking office in January, Colorado’s Rep. Lauren Boebert earned bipartisan praise for refusing to back down under what was widely reported to be heavy lobbying by the White House to abandon the discharge petition effort that led to the legislation to release the files that Trump was ultimately forced to sign. But with the Justice Department once again stalling for time in open defiance of the law Boebert fought for, the representative who lapped up the praise for sticking to her proverbial guns has moved on dot org:

“I don’t give a rip about Epstein,” Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) said last week when she was asked to take stock of the month since the Dec. 19 deadline. [Pols emphasis]

“Like, there’s so many other things we need to be working on,” she added. “I’ve done what I had to do for Epstein. Talk to somebody else about that. It’s no longer in my hands.”

Allow us to be the first to retract our praise for Boebert’s short-lived courage.

Let the record show that Boebert’s commitment to justice for Epstein’s victims was one thin veneer of bullshit in depth.
