Rep. Ryan Gonzalez Gets The Best Fake Press Money Can Buy

Republican Rep. Ryan Gonzalez, representing a swing district that includes most of Greeley he barely won in 2024 over incumbent Democratic Rep. Mary Young, was excited to share a glowing profile of himself last week from a purported news outlet called MagnateView Magazine:

Rep. Gonzalez says it’s “an honor to be recognized” as one of MagnateView’s “Top 5 Pioneer Leaders Shaping The Future in 2026.” That sounds pretty cool. In journalistic terms, however, MagnateView’s write-up of Gonzalez is so gushingly positive that it can only be characterized as what public-relations professionals and journalists refer to as (pardon us) a “blow job.”

We haven’t read the whole thing, but we assume by the end Rep. Gonzalez will have cured cancer and brokered peace in the Middle East! Safe to say this is the most lavish praise for a lawmaker we’ve seen outside of a Donald Trump Cabinet meeting.

And that makes sense when you look at Rep. Gonzalez’s campaign expense reports, because it looks like he paid a Nevada brothel’s worth of money for this blow job:

We’re not experts on this, since we take pride in the 100% human authorship of the content on our blog. But $400 seems like an awful lot of money to pay for “AI slop” praise when any number of chatbots could have written it up for free–and one of them probably did to then be resold to Gonzalez. We suppose some of that premium is for the reach of MagnateView Magazine of Sheridan, Wyoming…but we think that the reach of that publication is probably no farther than the promotion of their paid content by those who pay for it. From what we can gather with our limited attention span, MagnateView appears to be in the business of selling glossy biographical profiles to make people you’ve never heard of appear more important and influential than they are. Most of them get away with it because they are not required to report these as campaign expenses.

Oops.

With all of this in mind, is it embarrassing, even pathetic for Rep. Gonzalez to try to pass this “pink slime” pay-to-play content off as authentic praise?

We are of course asking this question rhetorically.
