Ex-Republican State Senate Candidate Charged With Second Amendment Resulting In Death

UPDATE: Republican operative Tyler Sandberg brings the receipts after Rocky Mountain Gun Owners-backed former GOP state Senate candidate Tim Arvidson was arrested for first-degree murder:

—–

Former GOP state senate candidate Tim Arvidson, the way you always thought he would end up.

In the news business it’s a grim but common expression that “what bleeds leads,” but in the arena of political news it’s thankfully not as common–except when, as the Colorado Springs Gazette reports, something terrible happens that the observant could have easily seen coming:

Colorado Springs police arrested a former state Senate candidate for allegedly shooting and killing a man in the 1900 block of Calle Da Seville on Sunday, according to a news release by the department.

Officers were dispatched to the area around 3:45 p.m. and detained 64-year-old Timothy Arvidson. The victim, 43-year-old Robert Dougher, was later found deceased at a convenience store in the 1000 block of 21st Street with “at least” one gunshot wound.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information can call CSPD at 719-444-7000 or remain anonymous on the crime stoppers tip line at 719-634-7867.

Two years ago, we took note of Republican Senate candidate Tim Arvidson, who ran against now-incumbent Sen. Lisa Frizell promising “law and order” while hoping voters didn’t read about his own mile-long criminal record:

Arvidson had a lengthy history of criminal and civil cases before his 2024 run for office. From 1988 to 2022, Arvidson was a defendant in 30 separate civil and criminal cases, according to previous Gazette reporting.

From serial DUIs to domestic violence to slapping a man who tried to film him going maskless into a grocery store during the COVID-19 pandemic, Arvidson is a textbook example of someone so experienced in breaking the law that they perversely imagined themselves qualified to make it.

It’s a story of hypocrisy tailor-made to end badly, and unfortunately in Tim Arvidson’s case, somebody has now allegedly died.
