Another Gem from the Party of Law and...Whatever

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

Timothy Arvidson, a former [snort] “Public Safety Commissioner”
Let’s start with the quote, because that’s the real star of this story:

“I am absolutely very strong in fighting crime. We need safe communities, fully funded, and to support our police officers.”

Those are actual words from the mouth of Timothy Arvidson, the Republican who has the official endorsement of the Douglas County Republican Party in his Primary battle against Republican Rep. Lisa Frizell in SD-2 (for the seat held by the term-limited Sen. Jim Smallwood).

Okay, one more quote:

“As a former Public Safety Commissioner, I will have a ‘Tough on Crime Approach’ in District 2.”

The Colorado Republican Party has been on quite the roll (downhill) lately, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that nobody at the state or county party ever got around to doing a basic background check on Arvidson, whose quotes above are so amusing because he has a criminal record the likes of which we may have never seen in Colorado politics.

As Marianne Goodland of the publication formerly known as the Colorado Statesman reports on the political party formerly known for “law and order”:

Court records show 39 separate civil and criminal cases, in which Arvidson has been the defendant in 30.

Arvidson’s criminal past includes domestic violence, four DUI charges between 1992 and 2006 and multiple restraining orders between 1996 to 2010. The criminal and civil complaints stretched across six separate jurisdictions: Arapahoe, El Paso, Jefferson, Denver, Douglas and Summit counties.

“I’ve made mistakes in my past, I’ve owned them and own up to everything I have in my past. Everything in my past is 20 or 30 years ago,” Arvidson, 62, told Colorado Politics.

Tim “I Didn’t Do It” Arvidson

That last quote would be true if by “20 or 30 years ago” you meant, “just two years ago.” As Goodland explains:

His most recent criminal charge stemmed out of not wearing a mask at a grocery store during COVID, in which he slapped a cell phone out of the hand of a person who — Arvidson said — stuck a phone in his face.

Maybe there was a different pandemic 30 years ago?

Arvidson is obviously completely full of shit, which is not surprising considering his previous criminal charges for possessing and selling drugs; domestic violence resulting in protective orders; multiple charges for failure to pay taxes in multiple states; and, naturally, a DUI.

In other words, he’s the ideal Republican candidate for 2024! If Arvidson wins the June 25th Primary Election, he’ll be on the same ballot as the first former President in history to be convicted of a felony and any one of several Republicans running in CO-04 who giddily admitted to their own criminal histories and received applause for doing so. He might even come across someone in Colorado who bought a locally-produced “I’m Voting for the Felon” t-shirt.

Colorado Republicans are so far gone that they left “parody” at the side of the road 800 miles ago. But please, tell us more about how you are going to make us safer from criminals…like yourselves.
