Big Change Coming To Colorado Pols Comments

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

MONDAY UPDATE: The Disqus migration is underway! We are in the process of importing thousands of existing comments into Disqus and syncing comments for display here. Things are going to be weird for a little while while we complete this process. In the meantime, you may use Disqus with any account option available and those comments will be retained. We are working on single sign-on access for existing accounts.

—–

No, we’re not turning you in to the FCC or (insert government acronym here).

But in the next few days we will be implementing a major change to the comment system that we are hopeful will make it much easier for new users to join the discussion. We will be switching to the Disqus comment management system, which will offer a number of important user experience upgrades:

  1. Users will no longer be required to create one-off accounts on Colorado Pols to comment, with several social media and shared account login types including Google and Facebook accounts available. User accounts will still be required to post user diaries, and we’ll work with users on a case-by-case basis to ensure they can still do so.
  2. Users will have a greatly enhanced comment experience available that will include image uploads and simplified editing options.
  3. Site performance will improve as comment functions are offloaded to Disqus.
  4. Your humble hosts will have a better interface for managing comments and ensuring valid content doesn’t end up in a spam filter.

All existing comments will of course be retained in the new system, and we’re looking at the options for existing user accounts to balance privacy and accessibility considerations. When we make this change, there will be no missing it, and we look forward to our veteran readers making a smooth transition while making it easy for new readers to comment using the login of their choice. Thanks to everyone who has helped make us the most-read political blog in Colorado for over 20 years.
