Colorado’s long-ousted but still not forgotten Sen. Cory Gardner appeared on the Fox News Channel earlier today to praise President Donald Trump’s agenda and chastise Democrats for “calling half of the country traitors” and “telling people to eff off when they disagree”–the premise being these are things that Democrats do and not, you know, Donald Trump himself. All in all a typical Cory Gardner doublespeak session that Colorado voters became painfully familiar with before he was tossed from office in the 2020 elections.

But readers who alerted us to Gardner’s appearance were struck not by what Cory Gardner had to say today, rather what seems to have happened to Cory Gardner personally since we last saw him on television:
On the left is Sen. Gardner as he appeared in office just a few years ago, cherubic and ruddy as we remember him scurrying into elevators to avoid reporters. On the right is a Trumplike spray-tanned gentleman we only vaguely recognize, and we suppose could be a shriveled version of Gardner left out in the sun too long at Mar-a-Lago. Today’s Cory Gardner could also do a passable impression of Sopranos antagonist Phil Leotardo, an impression that we suspect will only get better over time.
Ribbing aside, we do hope the former Senator is happy and healthy, not least since if Trump’s Cabinet members start dropping like flies Gardner could be the third or fourth-tier choice to replace one of them. Or perhaps Gardner could pick up one of Marco Rubio’s multiple jobs?
Let’s not get Gardner’s hopes up though, despite loyalty to Trump that cost him his career he’s been passed over for a reason.

Not just the spray tan. He looks stoned.
He looks like an escapee from some kind of freakishly bizarre RFK Jr. experimental medical treatments laboratory gone totally haywire!
He looks like an abandoned Elon Musk cyborg beta testing mishap!
He looks like the next slimy auditioner for some T**** administration sycophant position!
Both of those sound about right.
If he'd stayed in the House he may well be Spesker today. If he sticks around long enough he just might land a Cabinet position.
"If he'd stayed in the House he may well be Spesker today"
For what that is worth. If he somehow became speaker, he would last about a week before he was shown the door like his mentors, Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy.
I don't think MTG, Paul Gosar, Andy Bigg, or the other crackpots wold tolerate such a RINO.
Although had Garnder stayed in the House, we would be spared the current inhabitant of the CD-4 seat who got there when Ken Buck decided it was time to go. Boebert would have remained on the western slope and Adam Frisch would probably now hold that seat, reducing the GOP majority to 219-214.
Damn you're not kidding.
The spray tan is MAGA, but that's classic Ozempic face guys
My immediate reaction, as well!
Harris Faulkner still has that DEI jerb?
Cory Gardner, born August, 1974, so 50 years old. One of the few times I saw him in person, he looked to be about my height (5'10") and slightly slimmer than I was at the time, so 210-ish pounds.
The photo makes him look as slim as my VERY physically fit Dad when he retired in his early 60s — adjusting slightly for height, he'd be about 170-75.
I'd guess at fewer political meals at diners, fewer drinks with colleagues, and more time on exercise than dialing for retail-level campaign dollars.
Sure, Jan…
