That’s the verdict from 9NEWS’ Marshall Zelinger on a new TV spot co-funded by CO-08 Republican candidate Gabe Evans and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), leveling an accusation so sweeping against incumbent Rep. Yadira Caraveo that if you just take a moment to breathe and think about it, is absurd on its face:
AD CLAIM: Two Law enforcement officers: “Our border is a mess. And we’re dealing with the consequences. Drugs and crime are flowing into our community.” Gabe Evans: “And Yadira Caraveo is responsible for all of it.”
VERDICT: BS
That’s putting it kindly.
Caraveo, with her one vote out of 435, is not solely responsible for any action.
The ad conflates a federal issue (border crossings) with state statistics (Colorado fentanyl deaths) and then tries to blame it all on Caraveo.
You do not need a Truth Test to tell you that the statement, “Caraveo is responsible for all of it,” is just false. [Pols emphasis]
You shouldn’t, anyway. In an election season where one side has fully unplugged from reality in order to terrify Americans into believing that migrant hordes are devouring pets and taking over cities, Evans trying to lay the entire immigration issue at the feet of a freshman member of Congress–one who has, in fact, voted with Republicans on the issue to some consternation among her own–is every bit as preposterous. And it’s consistent with a pattern we’re seeing from Evans as we head into the home stretch of his campaign, after latching on to the false “Aurora Has Fallen” storyline just in time for Donald Trump to turn it into a threat to begin his long-threatened mass deportations in our state. Evans, as readers know, is a longtime fan of Trump’s promised mass deportations, and the fake news they are mutually spreading about Aurora is a means to achieve that end.
But the moral of the story for today is simpler: Gabe Evans lies. Evans lies a lot. More than the average Colorado politician. Evans’ propensity for regurgitating falsehoods flew under the radar during the Republican CO-08 primary and the Colorado Republican Party’s summer of chaos, but it’s coming into focus now as the lies Evans tells converge with Trump’s. Last week, Evans fired his political director Jessica Spindle after her long record of racism and calls for violence online was exposed, claiming ignorance of Spindle’s views–and inviting questions about how a candidate for Congress could possibly be ignorant of the political views of his political director.
Cracks are appearing, folks. Scrutiny is not proving beneficial to Evans, but in one of the nation’s most competitive congressional races, it was always coming.

Evans is a grade A bullshit artist. If we don’t stop him now he’s going to be a major problem for decades.
Our government describes the fentanyl transport problem as 95% based on US citizens going through standard border entry. Government stats and other research also show undocumented immigrants are LESS likely to be arrested and prosecuted for crime than citizens.
Just for fun — the border bill the Republicans sunk would have put 100 high-tech screening machines on the southern border. Has anyone asked Gabe to criticize Trump, Seeker Mike Johnson, or the Republican House conference for their votes against border security?
