As distributed to legislative staff and forwarded to us, here are some House committee changes announced by GOP Speaker Frank McNulty this afternoon:
APPOINTMENTS
State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee
The Speaker announced the temporary appointment of Representative Nikkel to
replace Representative Liston to the Committee on State, Veterans, &
Military Affairs (temporary appointment for the meeting on Wednesday,
February 22, 2012).________
State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee
The Speaker announced the appointment of Representative Joshi to replace
Representative Waller until further notice.________
Finance Committee
The Speaker announced the appointment of Representative Holbert to replace
Representative Joshi until further notice.
The first could have any number of circumstantial explanations, but we’ll be curious to see what bills the State Affairs Committee, known affectionately as the “kill committee” takes up that day. Bumping Rep. Mark Waller from the same committee for the quirky but we expect reliable (for McNulty, anyway) Rep. Janak Joshi could be the real story here according to a source.
We’ve heard that things might be getting a little fractious in the Republican caucus, so it’s probably smart for everybody to pay a little closer attention to McNulty’s chessboard. If this is indeed a consequential move, we’ll all know soon enough.
