So Much For The "Pack Heat Anywhere Act"

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

As FOX 31’s Eli Stokols reports:

A bill that would have allowed some licensed gun owners to carry their weapons concealed without undergoing a second $150 background check is dead…

Rep. Chris Holbert, R-Parker, the bill’s sponsor who already shepherded the bill through the House, referred to the current weapons permit system as a “coat tax” because gun owners who can carry their weapons openly are subject to a second round of background checks just to be able to cover that weapon under the coat.

We discussed polling released a couple of weeks ago that showed, even though Colorado is certainly a gun-friendly Western state, that a lopsided majority of Coloradans–including gun owners–oppose weakening existing gun laws. 44% called for stricter laws, 41% called for no changes, while only 9% of those surveyed actually wanted weaker gun laws.

It’s odd to see Republicans trying so hard to make 9% of voters happy, don’t you think?
