Doug Lamborn Wins Conservabot First Prize Again

The Colorado Independent’s John Tomasic:

Colorado Springs Congressman Doug Lamborn for the second year in a row has been announced one of five “most conservative” members of Congress by the National Journal. “This is an honor I share with my constituents in Colorado’s Fifth District,” Lamborn wrote in an email to supporters. “I am privileged to represent Americans who share my love of liberty and freedom and who recognize that the government that governs least, governs best.”

In his email, Lamborn celebrated political conservativism as an approach to policy-making that stresses small government, individual liberties and economic freedom and that attacks budget deficits…

For the second year in a row, I have been named the Most Conservative Member of Congress. In its annual ranking of House Members, the National Journal gave me a score of 95% for my conservative voting record. I tied with my colleagues Reps. Randy Neugebauer (TX), Sam Johnson (TX), Jim Jordan (OH), and Trent Franks (AZ).

In other words, four other guys with about the same name recognition as Doug Lamborn. Being an automatic vote for a pre-fab platform makes for good party-line rankings, but it also makes for a fairly dull congressional career. Wouldn’t it be cool for Rep. Lamborn to go totally off-reservation Jared Polis style once, just to let people know he’s got a pulse?

And no, opposing Mike Coffman’s defense cuts doesn’t count. That just makes him more of a conservative, once you get past the pesky arithmetic.

  1. Lamborn should celebrate when they roll up Colorado Springs and layoff all those government workers in his district and require Welfare City to get off the government gravy train.

Oh wait.  He did oppose in the most strenuous terms any cuts to defense spending.

Nothing like speaking out of both sides of your mouth when it comes to government spending.

    What a hypocrite.

  2. I have never been so proad of my elected representative.  He sure does perfectly represent me and everyone in my rural County.  I am drinking the kool-aid as we speak.

The scary thing is I would feel better about being rep’d by Tipton than Lamborn.  Talk about setting the bar low!

    1. .

of the folks who actually vote here in CD-05, the vast majority seem to be pleased to have him as their Rep.

      He got 66+% last go-round.

      .

  3. .

    ever thus shall it remain.

I remember Dan Slater going into convulsions at the 2006 District Assembly at the prospect of a “Ben Nelson” conservative as the party’s candidate.

Why try to win the District, when you can intentionally lose and have Doug Lamborn to complain about ?

    .

    1. is because they nominate CorporaDems and the progressive wing stays at home, sitting on their hands (those who have hands) (and those who have homes). Once ConservaDems realize this, they’ll stop nominating all these candidates who can “win” in Colorado and put up some real Democrats.

      1. Jay Fawcett – Air Force Academy Grad, Retired Lt Col, Desert Storm Veteran (with a Bronze Star to show for it!).

Not exactly a “flaming liberal” background.

As a retired military officer, I am very impressed with Representative (and military veteran) Coffman’s reasoned approach to scaling back some of the military’s budget and the elimination of the Selective Service System.

Think how influential our delegation would be if we had two strong military veterans (Coffman and Fawcett), from different parties, representing us with regards to military affairs.
