BREAKING: Ali Hassan, the one & only, switches parties

Colorado GOP loses Hasan

Prominent Muslim political figure fed up with party bigotry

Muhammad Ali Hasan, a member of the wealthy and influential Colorado Republican Hasan family and a past state House and treasurer candidate, said he is switching parties. Speaking at the University of Colorado-Boulder on his experience growing up Muslim in the American West and later in conversation with the Colorado Independent, Hasan said he is ending his affiliation with the party for the bigotry he believes has shaped Republican politics over the last year.

As reported in The Colorado Independent

Welcome, Ali.

(I hope you don’t get too frustrated with Democratic spinelessness too quickly.)

  1. That’s what John Elway told Neil Smith in his first game after coming from the Chiefs.

After the Park 51 debacle, I cannot blame him in the least for abandoning the party that is far more in line with his views on fiscal policy. Now whether I can talk him out of his horrible fiscal policy views is another matter.  🙂

    1. Call me cynical and mean, but Hassan’s switch to Dems is strange to say the least. Democrats disagree with his fiscal views to a large extent!

I respect the man for his accomplishments and moxie, but it is very hard to see how advocating for TABOR and 60/61/101 makes him a Democrat in any sense of the word.

Should have gone Independent. But, again, cynical side coming out, when you give a lot of money to politicos for recognition, you gotta be recognized by someone…

In any case, all my personal beliefs aside, Ali – your social views are important and you’re a good man for standing up for them against the narrow minded bigots in the Republican party.

      Welcome.

    2. I remember when Elway told Neil Smith that (and if you’re comparing me to Neil Smith, then I have a big ego for the rest of the day)

I’m still TABOR4LIFE, but in embracing the Democratic Party, I hope to actively support greater spending for Higher Education, which can be easily accomplished if we just legalize marijuana and release all the prisoners locked up on Mary-Jane’s charges…

      1. however TABOR really just serves to undermine state government. I did vote for it and regret that now.

the fine print is treasonous in my opinion.

but everything else you just posted I concur with!

        again welcome…

  2. Ali, you should have joined so many of us ex-Republicans who are now unaffiliates.  We’re out to destroy the Republican Party so we can have the real Republican Party of Barry Goldwater back.  We can’t be Democrats because we have so many disagreements of policy and because the Democratic Party is inept.  But we can work together to get a new party that represents the true conservatives.  Nevertheless, CONGRATULATIONS!!  Welcome to the right side for a change.

    1. Ultimately Craig, I would like to run for office again

I LOVED running for HD56 – going to all the various meetings and working to represent a group of people – it was extremely fulfilling

America is a 2-Party-System now and I want to be in that system – that said, the Democrats promote much greater amounts of liberty today, than the Republicans do – I’m happy to grow a Party that is correct on the social issues, while doing my best to influence some semblemce of fiscal conservatism with the Democrats
