Coloradans are paying the second-highest insurance premiums in the nation.

It’s a big problem, and it’s one of Gov. Jared Polis’ top priorities. Last year, Colorado passed an innovative “reinsurance” plan to save Coloradans buying insurance as much as 20% or more on their monthly premiums. Families across the state are already seeing the difference.

In 2020, we’re taking the next important step: the “Colorado Option” to provide even more affordable health coverage.

We’ve all heard stories of friends and family members who go under-insured or uninsured because they are forced to choose between paying their mortgage or rent and paying for health insurance. The Colorado Option will fight for us–to increase consumer choice and lower individual costs across the state.

Spotlight On! Gun Violence Prevention and Migrant Justice

The crisis in migration is driven by a combination of anti-migrant racism and the proliferation of guns and militarism from the United States. John Lindsay-Poland documents the legal and illegal flows of guns from the United States that are bringing devastating violence to communities and migrants in Mexico and Central America. This event will explore the trajectory of trans-border U.S. guns and policies, how Mexico is responding, and what our communities can do to stop these vectors of violence and trauma.

UPAC Meeting Public Comment

Join the Moving Beyond Coal Coalition for public comment at the March UPAC Meeting. They will be discussing the societal costs of continuing the use of coal in our community. The economic and health costs of air pollution from burning fossil fuels totaled $2.9 trillion in 2018, calculated in the form of work absences, years of life lost, and premature deaths, according to a new report by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). The cost represents 3.3 percent of global GDP, or about $8 billion per day.
We need to take into account the real cost of fossil fuels, not just for our rapidly heating planet, but also for our health. Air pollution is a threat to our health and our economies.

One Colorado: You Can Play Night with the Avs

We are rapidly approaching the You Can Play Night with the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday, March 4th. The Avs team and staff are are making this years Pride Night the most fun yet!! Youth Lobby Day at the Capitol: Plastic Pollution

Across the United States and Colorado, students are leading the charge in getting their state governments to take action on reducing single-use plastic. They want to see the world they live in clean from unnecessary, toxic plastics! Students (elementary-college) have the opportunity to urge their state lawmakers to support legislation that reduces plastic pollution on Thursday, March 5th at the Colorado State Capitol. Join Environment Colorado, CoPIRG, EcoCycle, Inland Ocean Coalition, and dozens of students across Colorado at the Youth Lobby Day at the Capitol: Plastic Pollution.

Wetʼsuwetʼen Solidarity at the Canada Consulate

Join us in a demonstration expressing solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en First Nation in British Columbia as they resist the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the fossil fuel industry invasion of their territories. We are responding to the call for solidarity actions from Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities who uphold Indigenous sovereignty and recognize the urgency of stopping resource extraction projects that threaten the lives of future generations.

Colorado Rising: Rise Up: Broomfield

Proposition 112 created a massive upswell of support and momentum. Now it’s time to build off that foundation and achieve a major victory for our communities and the climate. In the words of Susan B. Anthony, if we refuse to give up, “failure is impossible.” Come meet our Executive Director Joe Salazar, our powerhouse team, and your fellow community members as we discuss our 2020 plans.
