Former Colorado Republican Party chairman Dave “Let’s Go Brandon” Williams, who presided over a state party so dysfunctional that national Republicans outsourced campaign mailers to Arizona for state races while Williams shamelessly bilked the party out of thousands of dollars, and diverted resources to support the personal political aspirations of himself and his unelectable crackpot friends, has not been exactly what you’d call held accountable for the destruction and continued infighting he left in his wake. In fact, due to Williams’ unswerving loyalty to Donald Trump, in whose name Williams took many of his most self-serving actions as party chairman, Williams was rewarded with a high-ranking position in the Trump administration’s Commerce Department last year.
But after less than a year in his position as senior advisor to the International Trade Administration, which we assume was good for Williams since his family’s business before he discovered politics was importing stuff from China, Williams this month announced that he has traded one Trump administration patronage appointment for another:

As of this writing we can’t find Williams on the roster of senior State Department officials, but a Senior Bureau Official (SBO) is indeed a high-ranking position in the nation’s diplomatic corps, essentially the official in charge of one of the State Department’s multitude of individual bureaus and offices. If Williams really has been promoted to such a high-level position, all we can say is the turnover in “Little” Marco Rubio’s State Department must be even worse than reported.

Anyone who knows Williams from his quarrelsome service in the Colorado legislature or his calamitously inept tenure as Republican Party chairman will have some pretty direct questions about what exactly Williams is doing at the State Department, and how much damage he could do in a role more important than presiding over a state party already circling the drain. It’s one thing for Williams to oversee the importation of trinkets at the Commerce Department, but the State Department is responsible for truly consequential matters. We would like to know what specific duties Williams has been assigned, if for no other reason than to hit the prediction markets to bet against their success! We’re joking, but others might see a real opportunity.
Of course, if things go really badly in the field of international diplomacy, you find out via flashes of light on the horizon. We can only hope Williams never makes it that far up Trump’s patronage ladder.
