Weld County GOP Chairman Gets Perverted Justice

Here’s what you’d call a poorly-aged endorsement.

As Sady Swanson reports for the Fort Collins Coloradoan, Hunter Rivera, former legislative aide to Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer and the chairman of the Weld County Republican Party, was arrested on Thursday in Larimer County after allegedly attempting to do something very, very bad:

The chairman for the Weld County Republicans was one of two men arrested May 14 on suspicion of attempting to buy sex from Larimer County Sheriff’s Office investigators posing as minors.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sting operation May 14 that involved investigators posing “as minors selling sexual acts on local websites and forums,” according to the May 15 news release. The sheriff’s office says several dozen people responded to the listings, and two men came to the agreed upon location with the intent to buy sex from minors.

The men were instead met with deputies and arrested on suspicion of soliciting a child prostitute, Class 3 felony; internet luring of a child, a Class 4 felony; soliciting to arrange a minor prostitute as a cybercrime, a Class 5 felony; and attempted sexual assault on a child, a Class 5 felony, according the sheriff’s office news release.

Barb Kirkmeyer’s endorsement of her former aide Hunter Rivera for the Windsor Town Board.

Denver7 reports that Colorado Republicans are rushing to put daylight between themselves and the alleged would-be kiddie diddler who was up until this weekend the head of the Republican Party in one of its foremost bastions:

The Weld County Republican Party said Sunday that it has accepted Rivera’s resignation as county chair, effective immediately.

Colorado House and Senate Republicans released a statement Friday, denouncing Rivera and calling the charges “sickening.”

“These charges are sickening, horrifying, and beyond reprehensible. There is no defense for anyone who preys on children, no excuses, and no place for that anywhere near public life or our party,” the statement read.

The state GOP added in a separate statement that the allegations against Rivera are “deeply disturbing and, if proven true, deserve the strongest possible condemnation.”

One individual we haven’t heard from yet is Republican candidate for governor and state Rep. Scott “Rock” Bottoms, who as readers know has staked his failing campaign on the forthcoming exposure of “pedophile rings” operating in the governor’s office and both chambers of the Colorado General Assembly. Bottoms might be interested in learning that calls from pedophiles are, as they say, coming from inside Bottoms’ house! Then again, since Bottoms’ wacky claims have never been about events taking place in the real world, probably not.

Today, there are a large number of Republicans who must now perform the ritual of public disownment of their former ally (photos above ), once again over crimes that Republicans have themselves loudly condemned as the direct product of their political enemies’ “soft on crime” agenda. No sympathy should ever be afforded child sex predators–but is it worse when the people who grandstand about crime in general and pedophiles in particular turn out to be, you know, the pedophiles?

Answer: of course it is.
