The Number One Thing You Can Do To Fight Back: VOTE!

  • by: ProgressNow Colorado

Two years ago this week, Colorado progressives watched in horror as a minority of American voters elected Donald Trump to be our next President.

Colorado never supported Donald Trump. Trump didn’t win the Republican caucus, and he didn’t win the general election in our state, either. In 2016, Colorado progressives grew the state house majority, and held Colorado’s senior U.S. Senate seat. Since then, voters in Colorado have watched as the worst predictions about Trump’s presidency came true. The resistance to Trump’s presidency in Colorado is a movement like nothing we’ve seen in a generation.

Tomorrow night, everything we’ve done for the last two years to stand up to Trump faces the ultimate test. And on Wednesday, if the numbers we’re seeing today are correct we’ll wake up to a whole new playing field—a blue wave in 2018 that kicks off the longer campaign to truly make America great. Today, hope for America, even after these terrible two years, is very bright.

Needless to say, the biggest thing you can do now to fight back is make sure your vote is counted in tomorrow’s elections. If you’ve already returned your ballot, thank you! If you haven’t returned your ballot, or even if you haven’t yet registered to vote in Colorado, you can register and cast your vote all the way up until 7PM on Election Night. Visit JustVoteColorado.org or call 866-OUR-VOTE to find out where to go and what you need to bring. Colorado has the nation’s best, most secure, and most accessible election system, and there’s simply no excuse to not participate.

Once you’ve voted and ensured every eligible voter you know has done their part, here are a few more great ways to fight back for the week of November 5th. Also, make sure to check the RiseUp app for updated information:

Dismantling Toxic Masculinity: Beyond the Basics

Recent events have once again put discussions about masculinity and how we teach men and boys to behave at the forefront of public conversation. From the #metoo movement, to the online “manosphere” of pick up artists and incels, to the blatant sexism of our President, the implications are clear: we need to do more to challenge how men are socialized to interact with each other, women, and others impacted by sexism. Even more profoundly, we need to ask how we are teaching men to think about themselves.
