UFCW Backs Thrun Over Duran in HD-5

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

According to a press release:

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local #7 representing nearly 23,000 members has endorsed Mark Thrun in his race to represent House District 5 in the Colorado Legislature.

“We are proud to endorse Mark as our choice in House District 5,” said Kim Cordova, president of UFCW Local #7. “He has shown us his ability to stand up for working families and will make an excellent Representative.”

“I’m humbled by the support from the working families represented by the UFCW,” Thrun said.  “I learned as a child that service to your community isn’t something you can just talk about.  It’s something you must live.  UFCW embodies that value, and I’ve always tried to do the same.”

“Through my career and my volunteer efforts, I’ve spent my life trying to improve the lives of others in my community,” Thrun added.  “I can’t tell you how much it means to have earned the trust of the people for whom I’ve worked so hard.  I look forward to fighting on behalf of the issues that face so many of my neighbors in District 5 and I’m honored to be asked to help be the voice of the members of UFCW Local 7 in the State Capitol.”

Thrun recently won 53 percent of the vote at the Denver County Democratic Assembly, assuring him top spot on the August 10 primary ballot.

Ordinarily an endorsement like this wouldn’t be all that interesting, but this isn’t an ordinary circumstance. Thrun’s top opponent is former UFCW legal counsel Crisanta Duran, who is the daughter of Ernie Duran, UFCW’s longtime President until his re-election loss last summer.
