  1. Sending loving thoughts to the Udall family, on the loss of Senator Udall's brother Randy. May his loving memory always be a comfort to them all.

  2. Wow. How many blessings we enjoy, just because we are Americans! Today I'm going to give myself over to unmitigated gratitude to our nation. (Tomorrow I'll go back to bitching.) Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

  3. Here's an interesting idea out of Oregon:

Oregon's legislature is moving ahead with a plan to enable students to attend state schools with no money down. In return, under one proposal, the students would agree to pay into a special fund 3% of their salaries annually for 24 years.

While charging for college is one of the largest ways the middle class pays and the rich benefit, the above looks a lot better than what we presently have.

I would add one suggestion – that students who have Colorado as their primary residence pay only 2.5%. The state gains more from students who stay in the state. The small win is they buy more locally. The big win is a larger educated workforce has a multiplier effect on jobs here.

  4. In case you haven't seen this by now….I enjoy watching this kid, and he has sung twice more for the Spurs and others, in spite of the haters who insist that he must be "illegal". He responded graciously about people's "assumptions". My patriotic video for today: Sebastian de la Cruz singing the National Anthem. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/f2c4YXGNjx8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    1. Saw his Spurs performance. The name of the city is San Antonia, for God's sake. Where do the haters think that came from. Spanish/Mexican heritage is a lot older in Texas than northern European.  What's wrong with being proud of one's heritage?

Regardless of the fact that the boy is as American as any Irish American step dancer performing in traditional Irish dancing garb or Scottish American who wears a clan kilt proudly while performing on bagpipe, who could look at this beautiful boy, hear his angelic voice and go straight to hate and assaulting the child with nasty insult?  Oh wait. We all know who. What a bunch of losers. Just the type Tancredo loves to hang with and appeal to.

    1. We got out of Dodge to vist western slope friends in the stomping grounds of our youth last weekend ahead of the madness and will probably need most of this weekend to recover from yesterday's/night's festivities. Getting too old for for this crap. Even with every effort to carefully pace ourselves, when the partying starts at 4 and goes through fireworks time, it's a bit much. Hope everyone's feeling better than we are today.

On the other hand, it was worth it. Great cul de sac block party (not our block, a much more fun block) with great blues band, great food including great Q, great friends, kids and dogs having too much fun to behave badly and lots of dancing. An angelic little girl sang the anthem and hit all the notes, too. We plan to do it again even bigger and better next year when we will have no doubt forgotten all about the morning after! smiley Happy Birthday to us!

PS  Bet ArapGoof and friends assume we libruls don't celebrate the 4th, hating America and the constitution as we supposedly do.

          1. News flash for rightie morons: Every part of America, every type of town,  city and rural area, every American of every possible color, ethnicity,  cultural heritage, political persuasion and religion or lack thereof is the Real America. The Real America ain't just Mayberry anymore. Not that it ever was. You should have seen the mix we had at our July 4th block party. We also had a permanent legal resident or two and guests from several other countries studying or doing business here.  That's the real Real America. A great time was had by all.

  5. Colorado GOP abandons all hope in U.S. Senate race: Randy Baumgartner throws his (cowboy) hat in the ring.  Finally a Colorado senator with a 'stache!  I believe the last one with facial hair was in the '30s.  Maybe a little later.
