8:30 PM UPDATE: Like clockwork, Labuda maintains her advantage, beating Houck 68 to 31.
Although election results have not yet completely been reported, we’re comfortable calling the HD-1 primary race in favor of incumbent State Representative Jeanne Labuda.
Early results posted at 7:00 PM by the Denver Clerk and Recorder indicate an insurmountable lead in Labuda’s favor. The three-term representative has garnered 69.97% of the vote compared to just 30.03% for challenger Corrie Houck. While additional results will trickle in throughout the evening, the fact remains that this was an all-mail election. Unless every single Houck voter waited until the last minute to turn in their ballot, Labuda’s sizable lead this early on should be an accurate indicator of the evening’s final tally.

Boom!
I thought hard about posting this. However, I decided, I had too. The people of Colorado need to know who is making decisions about their future.
I had the opportunity about a year ago to sit with Labuda at a luncheon. I was talking with her about some issues. I challenged her on some of her positions. She asked me where I lived – which is not even in the city of Denver. When she realized I did not live her district, she became flustered, and said, “you cannot vote for me, so I don’t need to talk to you anymore.”
I thought people who are elected to the state of Colorado should represent all people’s ideals, not just those who might or might not be able to vote for them.
I don’t know this Houck person, but anything has to be better than simply being dismissed because I cannot vote for them. I wonder what empty promises she made to those who voted for her. As far as I can figure, all she cares about is getting a vote. So sad.
And, I do not want to insult voters in her district, but has anyone ever had the same reaction from her? I cannot imagine this is the first and only time she has been so insulting.
This is a sad day for the Colorado electorate.
Over 3 terms, Rep Labuda has done well by her district and the State of Colorado. We in Southwest Denver know that, in part because most of us know her personally. Even in non-election years, she’s out there knocking on our doors, asking how we’re doing. Does your representative go that far for you?
She “smoked” her primary opponent with almost 70% of the vote. I asked someone close to her about how she did so well, and I learned she had to work full-time at the Capitol almost to the end of May, so she had only about 4 weeks to campaign. Compare that to her opponent who had 6 months to campaign full-time. Impressive win for Labuda!
I’m especially impressed that Rep Labuda won without making a single statement to tear down her opponent. Like my neighbors, I was fed up with the false character attacks and distortions by her opponent.
Congratulations, Rep Labuda! Go git-em in November!
