Democrat Casey Tighe has soundly defeated incumbent John Odom in this year’s race for county commissioner, according to the certified results posted by the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder.
Tighe was leading by just 251 votes before provisional ballots were counted. After their tabulation, the Democrat’s advantage has swelled to 738 votes. That’s just outside of the 681 vote margin which would trigger a mandatory county-funded recount — only necessitated if Odom’s take was within .5% of the total votes cast for Tighe.
Odom and the Republican Party have until December 7 to request a recount at their own expense, although Tighe’s advantage is so large and Jeffco’s machines so accurate that there’s little reason to suspect a recount would fundamentally alter the outcome of the election.
As such, it’s safe to say that Tighe has unseated John Odom and will take his place as Jefferson County commissioner — and the lone Democrat on the Board — in January.
