Conveying sad news this afternoon, the family of former Denver Post political reporter Lynn Bartels announced via Facebook a short while ago that she has died after several months battling a glioblastoma brain tumor. During her career at the Rocky Mountain News and then the Denver Post going back to 1993 until her retirement in 2015, Bartels was a central figure in elucidating the state’s transition from solid Republican to enduring Democratic control–even though she was herself a moderate Republican.
Bartels’ wit and eloquence insightfully graced Colorado’s political culture for a generation, and her deep institutional wisdom can never be replaced. She leaves behind a proud legacy for future journalists to aspire to.
Memorial information is forthcoming.
