Mountain-Moving Hall of Shame? Jeffco Republicans Say, "Hold My Beer"

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

We regularly note the latest entrants in what we call the “Mountain-Moving Hall of Shame,” in which a Colorado politician uses an image of a non-Colorado mountain in campaign literature or television advertisements. This usually happens (we assume) when a campaign consultant unfamiliar with Colorado finds a random mountainous image pulled from stock photos.

The Jefferson County Republican Party is looking to create its own wing in our Hall of Shame with a newsletter supporting a couple of ballot measures in a special election in Lakewood that has been rife with misinformation. This image is most certainly NOT Lakewood, Colorado:

The original image appears to be AI slop from the website of a local moving company. Google AI claims that this is an image of Colfax Avenue in Lakewood, likely because of a sign that is cropped from the original image that is not, in fact, a real hotel (at least not in Colorado):

One of the easiest ways to spot AI slop is to focus on comically-misspelled words like this “MOTTTEL”:

Perhaps the graphic designer for the Jeffco GOP should get out of the house more often and take a look at the actual Lakewood. But it’s good to know that Jeffco Republicans are in favor of repealing zoning changes in a place that doesn’t exist.
