Victor Marx Locks Down Some Very Boebert-y Endorsements

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

In the Republican primary for the nomination to probably not become the next governor of Colorado in 2026, we see once again upstart “high risk missionary” candidate Victor Marx capitalizing on the momentum he enjoys in his race against underperforming career politician Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer of Weld County with two new big name endorsements: and if their names aren’t big to you, you’re simply not the Republican primary voter Marx is looking for.

Ted Nugent might seem at first glance as an odd endorsement for a candidate whose claim to fame is rescuing children from human trafficking operations, with hits like Wang Dang Sweet Poontang and Jailbait presenting a somewhat less than wholesome image of the 77-year-old rock star. But we said the same thing when Nugent endorsed anti-immigrant firebrand Tom Tancredo in his vanity runs for any available office after leaving Congress, and his supporters weren’t troubled.

While “The Nuge” may be setting the tone for Marx culturally, it’s Marx’s other new endorsement that is turning heads in the Republican primary:

The endorsement of former Gen. Mike Flynn, a true patron saint of the far-right conspiracy theory underworld, is a bigger deal in this primary than it would be in any other circumstance. Colorado Republican primary voters are heavily skewed to the fringe right where people like Flynn hold something close to deified status. This is endorsement star power where it matters most for Victor Marx, and along with Marx’s fellative appearance with former Rep. Matt Gaetz last week, we see the influence of Marx’s biggest local backer, Rep. Lauren Boebert.

Barb Kirkmeyer’s campaign for governor has felt from the beginning like a pro forma effort, from a career politico who has been expected for many years to end her career with a loss running for statewide office. But Victor Marx seems to be interrupting Kirkmeyer’s long goodbye with his charismatic insurgent campaign, backed by the nuttiest by-products of the MAGA entourage.

Like the career politicians Donald Trump left in his own wake.
