Obama Outlines New Policy on Young Illegal Immigrants

  • by: Colorado Pols

From CNN:

In a Rose Garden address Friday afternoon, President Barack Obama said the changes caused by his executive order will make immigration policy “more fair, more efficient and more just.”

“This is not amnesty. This is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship. It’s not a permanent fix,” Obama said to take on conservative criticism of the step. “This is a temporary stopgap measure.”…

…Under the new policy, people younger than 30 who came to the United States before the age of 16, pose no criminal or security threat, and were successful students or served in the military can get a two-year deferral from deportation, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said.

It also will allow those meeting the requirements to apply for work permits, Napolitano said, adding that participants must be in the United States now and be able to prove they have been living in the country continuously for at least five years.

Many Republicans are obviously upset with the new rules from Obama, but from a political perspective, the President probably gains more than he loses. People who are furious about this weren’t likely to be Obama voters anyway, while this move may solidify a strong turnout from Hispanic voters in Obama’s favor.

  1. for the predictable tsunami wave of Obama-blaming Willie Horton “Jose Garcia” stories and ads coming to a FOX news channel near you.

What else you gonna do with all that Adelson-Perry-Koch money?

    1. Why do you feel so persecuted? It wouldn’t be because this contradicts existing law or because the WSJ will write stories describing how all these new illegals will boost unemployment rates…..would it?

The white kids in Iowa and WI won’t like this all that much…..they’re very very very white back there….some more of you libruls need to volunteer to move back and accelerate the conversion.

      1. Nah, not in the least — project much?

Just wondering, is being wrong about every little thing just something you happen to do, . . . or, do you see it as some kind of obligation — (liking reinforcing your pathetic racism at nearly every opportunity)?

      2. Hilariously hypocritical for Lib, who’s posted racist shit about the Prez, to imply racial animus by other whites, but aside from that: IA/WI have a lot less immigration (I’ve spent some time there), so their white folk are less freaked about immigration than Colorado’s.

      3. Prosecutorial discretion by those agencies empowered to prosecute is a time honored custom, used for such things as humanitarian consideration or allocation of scarce resources. Sorry, Lib, no laws broken. This wasn’t a Presidential Executive Order, just a Homeland Security decision to temporarily halt prosecutions.

About the jobs, why don’t you talk to your boss about that? Maybe he’ll hire more “very very very (sic) white” kids to shill with you.

  2. We should full-blown amnesty to every immigrant

    AND

create a points systems (cf. UK and Canada) to encourage educated immigrants.

    We need the people.

    Remember:

    a. get a PhD and get a Green Card?

    b. buy a house and get a Green Card?

I do and I support those ideas.

    1. About as good as it gets via executive order.

Now go convince your Representative to vote on a forward-thinking comprehensive immigration reform policy – say, the one that’s been sitting on their desks for a few years gathering dust, dated somewhere around April 2009 and labeled “White House Immigration Reform Plan”.

    2. Until the immigration reform act ca. 1965, admission was mostly based on the needs of the country.  Those with good educations and technical skills got most of the nods.

After the act, admission was based on family connections with absolutely no requirement to be able to contribute.  In fact, said unskilled immigrants usually started sucking the government teat right away, automatically qualifying for SSI and other benefits.

We need to get back to what’s good for the country, not how pleased a family is. Not likely to happen, immigration is a huge business, from lawyers to the nonprofits that resettle and look after the immigrants.

      Follow the $$$.

    1. … rather he’s one of the many that find a path to citizenship between another set of legs.  Because f**cking towards a citizenship is deemed preferable towards working towards one by the federal government and those who think our immigration policy is “just fine the way it is”.

      1. Now you’ve almost got me siding with the Daily Caller reporter.  Because I’m not going to give up my immense delight at that guy (not an American, by the way, and not in America, by the way, and not in the White House press corps, by the way) showing his disgust with the criminal doofus we sent over there as our president.

Are you actually equating Obama’s giving a press briefing to Bush’s bombing someone’s whole damned country back to the dark ages?

      2. on the night our country plunged into the dark abyss of Iraq and the two trillion dollars that were wasted looking for non-existent WMD should shut their fucking mouths when it comes to scolding the behaviors of others.

  3. There are so many deserving students in our high schools, who are honor roll scholars, but will not have access to the American dream. Obama’s executive order, and the in-state tuition will give so many deserving kids a shot at improving their lives. Obama finally did something right for education!

  4. our resident racists today, folks.

After listening to a very informative session about this subject on UP w/ Chris Hayes this morning, it isn’t surpprising to see our righties all spinning round and round over this.

Twice so far this morning, Rmoney has refused to answer the question ” Will you rescind this order if elected?” The energy coming from the Hispanic community over this action is impressive. A congressman from Chicago (I think), pointed out that 2,000,000 Latinos who voted in 2008, DID’NT vote in 2010. He added that there have been 1,500,000 Latino youth that have become of voting age since 08. They are very happy with the president.

Rmoney is shaking the etch-a-sketch as we speak. Remember the things he said to take out Perry…they are going to really come back to haunt him.
