Last weekend’s Western Conservative Summit, which avoided downtown Denver for the tony Gaylord Rockies resort near DIA, brought in a reasonable B-List of conservative celebrities and mostly local Republican elected officials. One of the bigger names on the speaking roster at this year’s WCS was Jenna Ellis, the Colorado lawyer who along with the embattled ex-CU visiting professor John Eastman developed the failed parliamentary strategy to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election on January 6th, 2021.
Unlike Eastman, who has become a toxic figure shunned by most of his prior supporters, or Rudy Giuliani whose license to practice law has been suspended, Jenna Ellis’ career has seemingly flourished since Trump’s failed coup attempt, though a recent complaint seeking Ellis’ disbarment to the Colorado Supreme Court’s Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel could alter that trajectory. In the meantime, Ellis remains influential with a large social media following and a contributing gig with the far-right pseudonews channel Newsmax.
With all of this in mind, it’s necessary to take an endorsement by Ellis in a major Colorado Republican primary seriously:
Great to see my friend [Greg Lopez] this weekend in my home state. I am proud to endorse him for Colorado governor! He is a genuine conservative, experienced former mayor, and United States Air Force veteran. He has my full support and will have my VOTE!
Ellis may not have much credibility with liberals, but this is a very significant endorsement for Greg Lopez with a large segment of Republican primary voters. Lopez, a perennial baggage-laden heretofore minor Republican candidate, is by far running the strongest race of his life–and though that may be a consequence of Heidi Ganahl’s profound weakness as much as Lopez’s strength, we feel comfortable saying that Greg Lopez has never been more competitive than he is in the 2022 GOP gubernatorial primary.
There’s a good chance he’s as surprised as we are.

Jenna Rives is a joke of an attorney. So this clown-car endorsement makes perfect sense
Maybe she's angling to be named governor's legal counsel if the Wife Beater wins in November. She may want to bone up on election law and defending domestic violence cases.
