BUSTED: Scott Tipton Needs to Listen

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

So the Denver paper has a story about Congressman Tipton’s violation of ethic rules when he took public monies to fund his partisan campaign event in Avon.

In the article his staff claim it was an honest mistake.  Honest, perhaps, stupid as well.  It should be pretty obvious that when you are using public resources to campaign in a district that you do not represent (but want to after the next election) that you are violating US law.

In addition, Mr. Tipton was on notice:  I posted this diary a day before this campaign event, and it was front paged.

As I noted then:

Mr. Tipton, the candidate, of course has reason to be in Avon pressing the flesh, after all he will be running there–just not on the tax payers’ dime, or so one might think.  Once again, Mr. Tipton–fiscal conservatism for thee, but not for me, taxpayer money after all, is there to spend.

The congressman could have cancelled the event, and refunded the money grafted from taxpayers.

It was ignored by Mr. Tipton, and a GOP apologist piled on accusing me of selective diarying because I didn’t post on Mr. Polis’ visit to Longmont (although that was clearly noted in the very article he linked to in making his ‘case’ that this was paid for as a campaign expense  and not on the back of hard-pressed American taxpayers…).

The highest paid staff, funneling taxpayer dollars into private campaign events…

For someone who once ran on cutting government in half, he sure is doing his part to on spending what he can.

  1. Tipton doesn’t listen.  Why should his Tea Party staff, here and in Washington, be any different?

If Pace puts together the right team, he could easily pick up this seat. But he needs to hire seasoned staffers, consultants that know the Western Slope (particularly Durango north).

  2. for picking up this story.  I hadn’t heard it.

Not surprised, though.  And I like the counterattack – Look at Polis!  Classic Republican.

I’ve posted in various places links that rebut a conservative’s claims.  The funny part is that they don’t respond directly or admit that there may be more to the story.  Instead, they bring up a new issue.

    1. This is a targeted race for the House D’s and the R’s are playing defense with Tipton.  This could easily be one of the most contested race this year… (Emphasis mine so none of my friends from the other Congressional districts take offense).

    2. not like he meant anything as a factual statement.  It’s not that’s he actually refudiated anything, but at least he voted to kill US jobs and increase energy prices.

    3. It shows a consistent pattern of corruption and willingness to cheat like when Tipton scheduled a hearing on a wilderness proposal and tipped off the local Tea Party before it was announced to the public.  Being a cheater is more than a molehill.

  3. He doesn’t seem like he knows what’s going on and is willfully breaking the rules while thinking he is going to get away with it.

    Dumb? Careless? Willfully ignorant? Yes.

In an attempt to be the perfect Tea Party representative he does what he can not to look like a politician by not paying attention to the rules.

I’ve had co-workers like Tipton. They don’t pay attention to the rules unless the rules are crammed down their throats in writing in triplicate. If not, they break the rules and when you point it out to them they give you the blank stare and say “Well, I didn’t know”.

    1. Aren’t they supposed to hire experienced people who can keep track of the details.

His mistakes always seem to be on the side of cheating.  The guy never makes a mistake that is detrimental to him personally.  Any goofus can make a mistake but a true goofus screws himself as much as he screws anyone else.

Your argument that he is just gloriously ignorant seems kind of weak to me Scott but I tend to be a conspiracy buff when it comes to Republican shenanigans.

      1. Tipton is completely to blame for his screw-ups. I just see him less like Mr. Burns and more like Bart Simpson if I didn’t like Bart Simpson. He doesn’t care what the rules are because he’s a cool Tea Partier and that’s what the cool kids do.
