To The Victor Goes The Spoils, "Sleepy" Justin Everett Edition

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

Now ex-Rep. Justin Everett nods off in a committee hearing back in the day.

Back in June, we took note of an announcement from the Commerce Department reported by Ernest Luning of the Colorado Springs Gazette’s political blog that former Colorado Republican Party chairman Dave Williams had been appointed a “senior advisor” at the International Trade Administration–ostensibly due to his experience in importing containerloads of trinkets from China in his non-political vocation, but widely considered to be a patronage appointment to reward Williams for his unswerving loyalty to Donald Trump that included prevailing on the state party to endorse Trump months before the 2024 presidential primary.

Well folks, Dave Williams isn’t the only local-level Republican loser whose career has been given a new springtime in the Trump Golden Age! Here’s a bio we were forwarded from the Small Business Administration with a name long-time readers will recognize:

The honorable Justin D. Everett is the Rocky Mountains Regional Administrator serving Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. He is a seasoned political strategist, policy expert, and business consultant with extensive experience in government, campaigns, and entrepreneurship. He recently served as the Colorado State Director for Donald J. Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, overseeing grassroots mobilization, election strategy, and media relations. He also played a key role in the 2024 Republican National Convention, helping to shape and promote the Trump agenda.

A three-term Colorado State Representative, Mr. Everett was a leading voice on fiscal policy, business regulations, and education, serving on key legislative committees. His expertise in government affairs extends to political consulting, having founded Comma Consulting, LLC, where he has advised numerous candidates and organizations on messaging, media strategy, and campaign operations…

All spiffed up in 2025!

Former Rep. Justin Everett along with Williams inhabited the outer orbit of the wacky Colorado House GOP minority caucus for three terms before being edged out of the 2018 GOP primary for Treasurer by Brian “Pay Your Taxes” Watson, who as readers know also went on to lose. In 2020, Everett was narrowly defeated again in a primary for his old House seat by Colin Larson–a primary that left a bitter divide between Everett’s MAGA/Rocky Mountain Gun Owners supporters and the “suits” who backed the “RiNO” Larson.

In the legislature, Rep. Everett’s other trademark besides reliably sponsoring fringe-right “born to die” bills meant to stir maximum controversy before their inevitable demise was…well, not showing up to work at all. In 2014, Everett was “relieved” of committee duties in the House after missing more roll call votes than the entire rest of the GOP caucus combined. When Everett did show up to work, he was frequently, to quote Wayne’s World, “Partied out, man. Again.”

But there’s one thing “Sleepy” Justin Everett did do right, and that was to take the job as director of Donald Trump’s futile campaign to win the state of Colorado with Dave Williams’ glowing recommendation just days after the state party’s primary short-circuiting endorsement:

“Hiring Justin demonstrates that the Trump campaign understands the importance of the grassroots and ground game necessary to win in Colorado,” state GOP Chairman Dave Williams said in an email to party supporters.

There’s nothing in reality to base that on, certainly not Everett’s own record of losing–and that’s exactly what Everett delivered for Donald Trump in Colorado in 2024.

But just like Dave Williams, competence isn’t what Trump values most. Not even winning.

When you’re loyal to Trump, they let you sleep in.
