Tancredo To Guarantee Ritter's Re-Election?

  • by: Colorado Pols

File this somewhere between “no” and “hell no,” though the Denver Post feels obliged to report:

Former congressman and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo said he was hit with an avalanche of interest in his possible gubernatorial candidacy after a Douglas County supporter set up “The Draft Tom Tancredo for Governor” Facebook page Monday afternoon.

On Monday night, Tancredo wasn’t saying whether he is in or out, however, but noted that time was ticking away.

“If we’re going to do this thing, it’s going to have to be soon,” he said, reached on his cellphone. “Gosh, I’ve got to talk to a lot of people.”

Tancredo said he had been a strong supporter of Josh Penry’s.

“I had said that if Josh Penry wasn’t in the race, I would be,” said the Republican firebrand who is perhaps best known for his unflinching anti- illegal-immigration stance. “I know if I got into this thing, most of the party elite would not be happy.”

Oh, we can think of a few people who would be very, very happy to see Tom Tancredo jump into the Governor’s race–none of them are Republicans, though. We really don’t have the time or inclination to list all the reasons why Tancredo would be an unqualified, set-them-back-decades catastrophe as the GOP nominee for Governor. Fortunately for everybody, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell of it happening. And if it somehow does happen? Call the election that day.

That said, dissatisfaction with the sudden withdrawal of Josh Penry from this race within the Republican rank-and-file does seem to be a building story. What are the people who spent the last few months scumbagging Scott McInnis at every turn going to do now? Any ‘groundswell’ of support for Tancredo is more about McInnis’ weakness with the base than anything else.

So I’m not some egghead. I’m a hard-working American! OK? Why cant you undertand that McINNIS is a RINO, in bed with envirowackos and illeagle immigrants? Tancrado 2010! Comeon people–let’s take our party and country back. Say no to RINOs.

Hey, Colorado Tea Party and respondent–how can you misspell McInnis’ name when it’s right there in the article above the comment box?? When you’re using a computer, “copy” and “paste” are your friends. It’s not that hard….

I hope Thomas Tancrado runs. He can win and rally stop these RINOs from stealing our party.

Bummer, McInnis is old politics, Penry was my hope for the future. Lets hope he can shine on in a new path.

Kudos to Rep. Steve King that he felt it inappropriate to remark on Penry’s decision until Penry himself made the formal announcement. How rude of McInnis to make that announcement to the press before Penry had the chance. But that just shows what type of person McInnis is. I will not vote for him. We need people like Penry and King – Good luck to both of them!!

I am very sad, why doesn’t McGinnis drop out instead?

Too bad. Penry would have made an excellent governor. I look forward to hearing what he does next. But, McInnis will be an excellent governor too. I look forward to supporting him. Job #1 is to get rid of this awful governor we have now.

How ever you spelt his name, he’s still a business-as-usual RINO.

I feel that as a team Scott and Josh would be a very strong team and unstopable, together they would get COLORADO out of this MESS the state is in and get us on an even keel for the future. Scott is a friend of mine and I belive what he is saying he will do for the Western Slope.

Colorado Tea Party: His last name is McInnis, not McGinnis.

McGinnis did a great job for us for years. He will be great in what ever position he serves.

McGinnis better watch out! People in Colorado are fed up with career politician, corporate lobbyiss that sold America down the river when they had power. That’s Scott McGinnis–who gave up the 3rd CD (where he did an OK job until he made his staff name a canyon after him)–to that carpetbagger John Salazar. We need a REAL conservative in this race–like Janet Rowland or Craig Meis! I hope one of thems run.

This is unfortunate news. With Penry out of the way, McInnis will be the lead dog. I have no faith at all that McInnis will put the interest of Colorado and it’s people first – he certainly didn’t before. He’s a RINO and a male version of Diana DeGette, and will allow the enviro’s to whine and bully him. McInnis is really no different than Ritter.

I’ve been a supporter of Penry from the very beginning. I know him to be an honest, ethical, integral man. I know that in every thing he does, he always puts Colorado first, and while I’m sad I won’t be able to vote for him next year for governor, I look forward to seeing just how far his career will go.

    1. does anyone think Tancredo has a chance? First off, he’d have to give up his hardcore fight against illegal immigration. You can’t be the Governor and concentrate on one thing, which is what he does very well and will continue to do.

Plus he has no money of his own, he walks off television interviews when he feels like it and he’s just not really a nice guy…he’s right, the party elite wouldn’t like it and if they don’t want you, it’s not gonna happen.

I just don’t see it happening.

      1. making money now and anything that keeps him in the news helps him get bookings. Expect him to make a few noises about contemplating a run but, as much as we Dems may dream, the guy isn’t about to run for governor.  He’s into earning, not spending.

We can still hope for him to say negative things we can use later about whoever does become the R candidate.  Although coming from Tanc, who’d take any slurs seriously? Nope.  Looks like nothing much in this for Dems.

      1. No Rinos dammit !  Only the purest of the pure can save us from the Rinos, and take back our state and our country !

Stand for what you believe in ! Run, Tanc, Run !

        1. This really needs to happen. McInnis is wayyyyyyyyyy too moderate for Colorado. Or at least he used to be before he flip flopped. At least with Tanc, we know he’s a true red-blooded American who will fight for AMERICAN’S rights.

          1. Those comments really woke me up… by making me laugh so hard I nearly fell off my chair.  Now I’m awake.  And laughing.  Could you ask for more from a Governor?

    1. this is our chance to return to our conservative roots !  If anything is going to wake up and energize the “values voters” base like me this is it.  I heard Sarah is already putting in a call to push Tanc to run.

Team America ! Fuck yeah !

  2. I suppose Scott McInnis is happy today, but I wonder if Penry really did him a favor dropping out so early.  Scott’s campaigning skills seem rather rusty to me.  He could have used a brisk primary to tune him up.  Ritter isn’t a fabulous campaigner by any means, but he has much more recent experience.

    1. I believe this FaceBook posting on his fan page has a typo which I corrected in the title…

PLEASE! You know you have a huge constituency and your message is so 2010 and beyond!!
