Obama Shakes Off Debate Struggles At Sloan’s Lake

FOX 31’s Eli Stokols: President Barack Obama hit all the right notes during a campaign rally Thursday morning, offering a sharpened message and a rebuttal to Mitt Romney that he couldn’t seem to find Wednesday night during his lackluster debate performance… Describing his debate opponent as a “very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt […]

A Triumph of Form Over Substance

Politico kicks off this morning’s post-debate recap: As with any performance, a debate score is in the eye of the beholder. At least on stylistic grounds, however, a clear consensus of early reviews – most notably from liberal commentators dismayed by Barack Obama’s lackluster outing – judged Romney as having the superior evening, with a […]

Withering Enstrom “Nose Candy Man” Attacks Continue

A new TV ad hitting GOP Colorado House District 23 candidate Rick Enstrom hard over his 1985 arrest for selling drug paraphernalia is reportedly up with targeted cable buys: And here’s a new mailer attacking Enstrom on the same issue: Yesterday, Lynn Bartels of the Denver paper updated the Rick Enstrom drug paraphernalia story. Bartels […]

What?! I-25 Will Be Closed Tonight?!

Hopefully you’re not just realizing this now. Aren’t you glad you watch the news? 9NEWS has some helpful tips for navigating the city while Interstate 25 is closed this evening from 5:00PM to 10:00PM for the presidential debate at the University of Denver: Alternate routes like C-470, Interstate-225, Santa Fe Drive and Hampden Avenue are […]

Consumers Saved $99 million in 2011 Under Payday Lending Reforms

(And they’ve stopped spamming us, too – promoted by Colorado Pols) $99 million. That’s how much Colorado consumers saved in 2011 thanks to changes in the state’s payday lending law, according to data in a report released Monday by Attorney General John Suthers. The report shows the impact of the first full year of reforms, […]

Caption This Photo, “Romney BS” Edition

One of hundreds from this perspective taken at yesterday’s Mitt Romney rally at Wings over the Rockies Air Museum and now spreading via social media–this one courtesy Josh Davies. They really should have thought this backdrop through in relation to a camera’s field of vision: Tragic, folks. Just tragic.

How Can Romney Walk Back The “47% Victims” Debacle?

With Wednesday’s debate on economic policy at the University of Denver coming up, the Washington Post’s Philip Rucker asks an important question of GOP candidate Mitt Romney: …[Romney] said that 47 percent of Americans will support Obama’s reelection and are government freeloaders who pay no income taxes, see themselves as “victims” and can’t be persuaded […]

New “Buy American” Spot For Sal Pace

Colorado Democratic CD-3 candidate Sal Pace is out with his third ad this election cycle, another solid brand-building spot featuring a Pueblo (that’s PEE-bluh) steelworker praising Pace’s commitment in the Colorado legislature to “Buy American” preferences for state contracts. As we’ve discussed many times as various forms of local preference have been introduced, the issue […]

New Colorado-Specific Ad Hammers Romney’s Opposition to Wind Power

UPDATE: FOX 31’s Eli Stokols: The $500,000 ad buy from the League of Conservation Voters is timed to appeal to Colorado voters during a week where both campaigns and the national media are descending on Denver, where the first of three presidential debates will take place Wednesday night… The ad cites a FOX31 report from […]

One of the Dumbest Things We’ve Ever Read. Seriously.

Reporter Kurtis Lee of the Denver paper solved a few mysteries yesterday related to the absence of embattled incumbent Republican Rep. Mike Coffman from public events over most of the summer and so far this fall–ever since Coffman’s now-infamous remarks asserting that President Barack Obama “is just not an American” were made public. Two significant […]

Tough Break For Rick Enstrom, The “Candy Man”

Lynn Bartels of the Denver paper reports today on a serious development for another GOP Colorado House candidate, Rick Enstrom, after a mailer hit House District 23 mailboxes on Friday claiming Enstrom was “arrested for selling cocaine paraphernalia at his business.” To briefly circle back, some of you may recall Rick Enstrom from his testimony […]

Wednesday’s Debate at DU–Romney’s Last Chance

That’s the emerging consensus, as the Washington Post reports: President Obama travels to Henderson, Nev., on Sunday for a mission far more important than the usual swing-state campaign rally: He will huddle privately with senior aides for an intensive, three-day boot camp to prepare for the first presidential debate. On Monday, Mitt Romney will do […]

“Not a Beer” Goes Below the Belt

TUESDAY UPDATE: The big Denver newspaper chimes in with an editorial calling the ad “despicable” and saying that Coors should be “embarrassed.” —– Republican Joe “Not a Beer” Coors is up on TV with a new ad attacking Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter in their battle in CD-7. But this ad goes wayyyy over the line […]

RNC Vote Fraud: Nathan Sproul Strikes Again?

UPDATE: FOX 31’s Eli Stokols connects the dots: FOX31 Denver has confirmed that the young woman seen registering voters outside a Colorado Springs grocery store in a YouTube video, in which she admits to trying to only register voters who support Mitt Romney, was indeed a contract employee of Sproul’s company. —– NBC News reports: […]

Kaiser Poll: Republicans Have Lost The Health Care Debate

Russ Britt at the Wall Street Journal: A majority of Americans prefer to continue Medicare as it is, and only a little more than a third favor a “premium support” program outlined by Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney, according to a new poll. The poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation also finds – in what […]

Attention 80,000 Mail Ballot Voters: “Permanent Isn’t Permanent”

A coalition of nonprofit organizations including the Interfaith Alliance, Vote Vets Foundation, and the League of Women Voters sent out a press release this morning warning of some 80,000 Colorado voters who have opted for “permanent” vote by mail status, but are now “inactive failed to vote” in the voter registry simply for not voting […]

While Scott Gessler Was Busy Witch Hunting…

AP reports via 9NEWS: Colorado’s election chief says many of the nearly 800 people who registered to vote using a mobile device may not be registered because of a website glitch from Sept. 14 to Sept. 24. Republican Secretary of State Scott Gessler urged those people Wednesday to verify their status and register again if […]

Jefferson County GOP: Black Panthers Are Coming To Steal Your Vote

Originally posted at Colorado Pols.

FINAL UPDATE: Looks like the Jeffco Republicans finally got their webmaster on the phone. The image has been taken down from every single page on the site as of 11:00 PM. In its place on the home page is a much more, well, innocuous announcement: “Pollwatchers Needed. Contact Amy to sign up for training or receive more information.”

UPDATE 2: As of 6:30, the image has been removed from other content pages but has returned to its spot on the home page. Odd.

POLS UPDATE: As of 4:45, the Jeffco GOP has removed the photo in question from the home page of their website, although it’s still prominently visible on several other pages for now.

The whitewashing of the home page, mind you, only adds to the argument that this is something that should never have been on a county party website to begin with.

At the website of the Jefferson County Republican Party, the first thing you’re asked to do:

The two men in the well-known photo above are members of the New Black Panther Party, charged with making an isolated disturbance outside a Philadelphia polling place on Election Day 2008. No other incidents of the kind were reported anywhere else, but the photo of these two men has been used countless times by Republicans to incite baseless race-baiting fears of Black Panther thugs headed for your suburban neighborhood polling place to make trouble.

Oh, wait a minute!

Inside The Brian Watson Tax Lien Cases

The story originally went around late yesterday afternoon, but we wanted to circle back to unpack a few details surrounding the case of GOP Colorado HD-3 candidate Brian Watson’s hundreds of thousands of dollars in past tax liens. FOX 31 and the Denver paper both published stories yesterday showing that Watson at one time owed […]

Jefferson County GOP: Black Panthers Are Coming To Steal Your Vote

THURSDAY UPDATE: The photo in question has been removed from the Jefferson County GOP’s website, as reported late yesterday evening by Jeffco Pols. —– At the website of the Jefferson County Republican Party, the first thing you’re asked to do: The two men in the well-known photo above are members of the New Black Panther […]

Welcome Back, Todd Akin!

(You wondered what would happen? You can stop wondering – promoted by Colorado Pols) Hey, ladies! Remember when the Republican Party came close to showing an ounce of humanity by shunning Todd Akin after he told a reporter that cases of “legitimate rape” rarely result in pregnancy? Remember when you thought there was still a […]

Miklosi Up With Second TV Ad

Democrat Joe Miklosi is up on TV with his second ad of the cycle, and we were a bit surprised by the choice of message. Take a look: Miklosi’s first ad was primarily an attack on incumbent Republican Mike Coffman. We didn’t think it was as strong as ads for Democrat Sal Pace, for example, […]

New Polls Say Obama Pulling Away In Ohio, Florida

New York Times: For weeks, Republicans in Ohio have been watching with worry that the state’s vital 18 electoral votes were trending away from Mitt Romney. The anxiety has been similar in Florida, where Republicans are concerned that President Obama is gaining the upper hand in the fight for the state’s 29 electoral votes… Those […]

Romney-Ryan Front Range Hopscotch Continues

The Fort Collins Coloradoan: Today’s campaign visit to Fort Collins by Republican vice presidential nominee U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan is expected to be speedy. He will zip to Colorado Springs for another campaign event immediately afterward. He will arrive at Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport one hour to 90 minutes before his scheduled noon campaign stop […]
