Democrats Mourn Passing of State Sen. Faith Winter

Sen. Faith Winter (D).

Colorado Newsline’s Chase Woodruff reports on last night’s tragic multi-car pileup on I-25 that claimed the life of Democratic Sen. Faith Winter of Broomfield, who was about to kick off her final year in office next January:

Colorado state Sen. Faith Winter, a Broomfield Democrat who served for more than a decade in the Colorado General Assembly, was killed Wednesday night in a multi-vehicle crash south of Denver.

“Our state is shaken by the loss of Sen. Faith Winter, and I send my deepest condolences to her children, loved ones, friends, and colleagues across our state,” Gov. Jared Polis said in a statement.

“Faith was a fierce advocate for hardworking Coloradans, women, and families, and our climate,” Polis added. “I’ve known Faith for nearly twenty years, first as an organizer for environmental causes and then expanding women’s representation and leadership, and finally, as a state senator. I have had the honor of working with her on many issues to improve the lives of every person and family in our great state, and tackling climate change.”

Senate Democratic leadership released the following statement:

We are devastated to learn of the passing of our colleague and friend, Senator Faith Winter. Today, our caucus grieves the loss of a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the people of Colorado never wavered.

Senator Winter served our state with compassion and an unwavering belief in the power of public service to improve lives. Whether fighting for legislation to support mothers and families, championing groundbreaking transit policy, or simply supporting constituents in moments of need, she brought thoughtfulness, innovation, and humility to every aspect of her work.

Senator Winter was a colleague whose presence brought warmth and an invaluable perspective to the Capitol. We will miss her leadership, her partnership, and her deep commitment to a brighter Colorado.

Sen. Winter leaves behind a son and daughter, as well as her fiancé former state Rep. Matt Gray. Winter was much beloved by her colleagues. We’ll update with memorial information and any other related news once it’s available. In the meantime, our condolences to her family and many friends.
