Scott Bottoms Says People "Randomly Shoot Cops"

State Representative Scott “There is No” Bottoms (R-Colo. Springs) is certainly not known for his commitment to silly things like “facts” and “truth,” but he outdid himself on Sunday with some gross new rhetoric.

Bottoms is a pastor at the Church of Briarwood in Colorado Springs, where he regularly uses his pulpit to opine on political matters — including his own campaign for Governor in 2026. During the second hour of his second sermon on Sunday, Bottoms started talking about how Republicans were about to uncover “billions” of dollars in fraud in Colorado (yeah, sure) before pivoting to a weird diatribe that we assume was sparked by the coverage related to Saturday’s ICE killing of Alex Pretti in Minnesota. Bottoms’ rant included a salacious accusation about something that, as far as we know, is not actually happening:

SCOTT BOTTOMS: We’re in a place in our country right now, and in our State and in Minnesota and in many other states…we’re actually looking at Civil War kind of stuff. We’re looking at the people rising up – the people that believe in this country, that believe in liberty and believe in your freedoms that are saying, ‘We’re done with this.’

You can’t go after the cops and just randomly shoot cops and us as citizens be okay with this. [Pols emphasis]

We believe in this country. And there’s groups of people in our country that are literally [sic] hate America. Elected officials that hate America, and want to see it destroyed and see it turned into some sort of Marxist or Communist place, and then I have to be a Christian in the middle of that.

Um…what?

People are “randomly” shooting police officers? Did we miss some very important news coverage over the weekend? It seems like Bottoms is talking about Pretti, who was legally carrying a handgun on Saturday but was clearly not using the weapon to attack ICE agents, as the Trump administration has claimed (videos clearly show that Pretti didn’t even have the gun in his hands and was on his stomach when he was shot multiple times by an ICE agent).

Bottoms is certainly entitled to his opinion about Trump’s immigration enforcement efforts in Minnesota, but he’s not entitled to his own facts. Full stop.

You can watch Bottoms’ comments HERE (start at 1:00:40).
