Donald Trump Hates You

No matter their political affiliation, most major party nominees for President of the United States generally repeat a similar phrase in which they promise to be a President for all Americans. Most of them probably even mean what they say.

Democrat Joe Biden said it when he was elected in 2020. Four years later, Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris often said that her goal was to “be a President for all Americans.”

Hell, Donald Trump himself even claimed that he would be “a President for all Americans” when he was first elected in 2016.

But in 2025? Trump is no longer even pretending that he is anything more than the President of (Some of) the United States.

As Reuters reports from Sunday’s memorial service for Charlie Kirk:

President Donald Trump hailed slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a “martyr for American freedom” on Sunday and vowed at his memorial service to carry on his work, while again accusing what he called the “radical left” for Kirk’s murder.

“The violence comes largely from the left,” Trump said without citing any evidence, in remarks that downplayed political violence from the right and often turned starkly partisan in contrast to the more solemn tone that most other speakers adopted.

Trump has been blaming the left for the deadly shooting before a suspect was even detained. His messaging reflected the dual nature of Kirk’s memorial, which had the feel of a religious revival mixed with a “Make America Great Again” rally.

Trump’s most pointed comments came after he (sorta) praised Kirk for expressing that he did not “hate his opponents,” making it clear that he himself did not share that view:

TRUMP: He [Kirk] did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them. That’s where I disagreed with Charlie: I HATE my opponent, and I DON’T want the best for them. [Pols emphasis] I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Erika [Kirk]. But now Erika can talk to me and the whole group, and maybe they can convince me that that’s not right, but I can’t stand my opponent.
