Fremont County Commissioner Kevin Grantham is running for state Treasurer. The longtime public official also served in the Colorado state Senate from 2011 – 2019. During his time in the legislature, Grantham was a member of the Joint Budget Committee, before leading the chamber as its President during his last two years in office.
Grantham’s last session as Senate President saw him criticized for a perceived lack of leadership during an extended sexual harassment investigation of fellow Republican Randy Baumgardner, one of five complaints filed against lawmakers in both parties during the 2018 session.
After leaving the state Senate, Grantham successfully led a fundraising campaign to add an official portrait of President Trump to the state Capitol rotunda. That painting remained until earlier this year when it was removed after the President complained that his likeness was “purposefully distorted.“
Earlier this summer Grantham joined with Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (D-CO07) in Cañon Cityto hold a town hall on rural health care at which he expressed concern over the impact that the Trump budget’s Medicaid cuts and new administrative requirements will have on his county’s hospitals.
Last month he joined with conservative dark money group Advance Colorado and another aspiring statewide candidate, newly declared gubernatorial hopeful State Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer, to sue Colorado over a bill passed this year to allow the state to continue to collect tax on overtime pay.
Grantham began his public service as a Cañon City Councilman in 2007.
Grantham’s campaign manager Tyler Sandberg issued a press release a “special announcement” at 11:30 am today in Cañon City. Grantham’s campaign website however is already online.
Grantham’s Facebook page would indicate that he is a fan of another president: Ronald Reagan.
