    1. I appreciate the quote and the sentiment, as I grew up near Boonesboro, Ky. Today my nearest neighbor is better than 2 miles away.

But…what point are you making vis-a-vis todays' politics?

  1. I had the opportunity to preview the movie Cabrini last night; it’s set for release today, appropriately so, International Womem’s Day.  (BTW, shout out to all of the wonderful ladies who contribute to this blog).

The money shot is the last 30 seconds and I won’t spoil any surprises but the message of women fighting power structures, giving dignity to the least amongst us, the power of collective good left me with a chill at the end.  This is an Angel Studios production and I had some issues with their framing of their last release but if you’re in that camp don’t let it stop you with this one.

Another good watch: Ordinary Angels. Based on a true story and set in Kentucky, it’s at its core an indictment of our health care system and the triumph of the human spirit against all odds.

  2. #VOTE

Rep. Matt Rosendale is out, leaving Congress citing death threats he received after he announced he was running for Senate against a MAGA candidate.

  3. If you care about election law and Colorado's system, this Westword piece might be for you. There's a good chance Colorado will see a ballot measure or measures on the 2024 ballot that could bigly change our current system(s). The Westword piece was a bit more about Kent Thiry and money behind nationwide election proposals that it was about the specific ballot measures we might see in Colorado, but I'll highly recommend looking at specifics as the measures get approved for circulation or qualify for the ballot.

    1. Worth mentioning:  The story in Westword came from The Lever.

      And The Lever

was founded in 2020 by David Sirota, an award-winning journalist and Oscar-nominated writer who served as the presidential campaign speechwriter for Bernie Sanders.

About those election reforms — I'd encourage people to look at the results from similar "open primary" systems: Washington, California, Louisiana, Alaska, and Nebraska.   Trying to get a common theme from the political outcomes in those states strains my brain.

      1. Interesting! I skimmed right over that it was from The Lever on my first go-round. Checked out their website and saw a couple other Lever people who I believe have written for Westword or at least some Denver-area outlet(s), Joel Warner and Jared Jacang Maher.

As I mentioned before, I thought this story was kind of more of a personality/moneybags story than it was hard analysis about what possible changes in election systems would really do. I do fear Colorado voters might be too susceptible to moneybags messaging about how changes will somehow fix everything that's wrong with politics, but hopefully enough folks will do deep dives into the pros and cons so that we can at least think twice about consequences, intended or otherwise.

  4. Can't stop laughing at Lara Trump being co-chair of the Republican National Committee. It's hard to imagine why a good Christian like Eric let his woman get a jerb outside the home, but hey, now he'll have more time to pursue his first love – pouring concrete.

Anyhoo, the total PABification of the GOP continues apace.
